I love the 1940's covers. It seemed like back then the artists had a better imagination and could fit more action into a smaller space.

Astute observation. GA covers were larger, so artists weren't as constrained by space, UPC boxes, publisher indicia, CCA stamps, etc., which might've allowed more creativity. Also a point worth mentioning, both of the covers above are by Jack Kirby, albeit separated by 33 years!
