If we were talking about someone running a business selling comics this would make sense. But we're talking about eBay sellers. A lot of people on eBay are just selling parts of their comic book collection. A lot of them have full time day jobs. What you're suggesting is probably not possible for a lot of sellers. Lets not forget, most people buying comics on eBay are there for a bargain. So, if you're saving an enormous amount of money, in my mind waiting a couple days isn't so awful.

I have a full time job and I sell as a hobby. I’m a top rated plus seller with 100% positive feedback and I ship within 1 business day. It’s possible to do if you’re not lazy. When life has gotten in the way I always make sure buyers are notified very quickly of the situation, communication is key.

But not possible for everyone. To suggest anyone who doesn't ship within one is is lazy is not correct. Your situation obviously allows for it. You can't assume that everyone's situation is the same as yours.

It takes me 5 minutes to pack a slabbed book using a double box method with bubble wrap. Who doesn’t have 5 minutes?

We all have our different methods of packing. Mine takes longer than that and I think mine is a better method. As I said, you can't assume everyone's situation is the same as yours. Some people have chronic illnesses. Some have other things going on. Not everyone has the same kind of job as you do. Everyone's situation is different.

For someone accusing me of assuming, you’re assuming an awful lot of things. How can you possibly assume your packing method is better than mine, because you take longer? To me that just means you’re inefficient. You don’t know my health situation, what kind of work I do or how many hours I work. I don’t make excuses, I just get it done.

I sell a lot of graded books on eBay... I had over 500 sales last year. Not bragging, just providing context.

I will tell you, as a seller, it bothers me to no end when a buyer doesn't understand that when I purchase a shipping label, it doesn't mean that I have shipped the item... Furthermore, if I quote 3 days handling time, and print the label immediately, it doesn't mean that I have to ship the item immediately. It means I have to ship it within 3 days.

Additionally, I list 3 days handling time because it's much easier for me to ship in batches. 3 days allows me to package and ship items twice per week (on Sunday and Wednesday... if that matters). It doesn't mean I'm lazy. It means that it's more efficient to ship 10 items, twice per week, than it is for me to ship 3 items every day... that's commons sense.

I've timed myself numerous times. For me to package one item, it takes around 6-7 minutes. That includes printing the label, finding the item (I have several hundred items in inventory... again, not bragging), wrapping the item in bubble wrap, constructing the box, filling the box with the comic and packaging peanuts, and taping the box up. If I do a batch of 10 books, it takes me around 30 minutes because it's more efficient to construct 10 boxes, then print 10 labels, then find 10 books, etc...

I guess that's a long way of saying it isn't fair to say, "it only takes you 5 minutes to ship my item, I expect you to do it immediately..."

I don't care if you ship my book in 1 day or 10 days...as long as you tell me.

Fair enough, you set expectations. I like the perks you get as a top rated seller, plus I really have no reason not to ship right away as I have the PO pick books up at my home.

bottom line is there is no rule one has to ship immediately. you just have to ship in accordance to your stated handling time. if you are able to ship immediately, good for you and your clients. If you can't ship immediately but are compliant to your own handling time, good for you and your clients. If you ship outside your stated handling time please communicate with your clients advising so. That's it...nothing else to it.

Yep, I may have issues, family crisis, etc...but I also know I have an obligation when I start an eBay auction, and I always ship ASAP. Again...NO EXCEPTIONS! Perhaps it is the OCD in me. I give the best service and expect the same in return.

That’s cool. I find when I win an auction I have no expectation whether it will be shipped immediately or not. If I am curious, I will look at the EBay shipping, returns and payments section. Some sellers it will say “will usually post in 1 business day” some say 3, or 5, or 10 days. Up to the seller not me. If they say a time on their selling page, it seems unfair to complain.

Agreed! and their shipping terms are their terms....if buyers don't like the shipping terms they don't have to buy. The sellers obligation is to act within the stated shipping terms, no more no less.

So, still waiting for a half dozen packages that were shipped way before the New Year! NO delivery dates expected within this week! ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE!! not cool imo.

The ONLY exception I am tolerating is the one from Canada...which may actually arrive before some of the U.S. packages.

Just started collecting comics several months ago, mostly through ebay. With this being said I've been very fortunate with my purchasing experiences so far. Of all of my purchases I've only had one or two times where there has been a slow turn around on shipping.

I don't personally mind if someone takes a few days to ship something. What I'm currently minding quite a bit is when it takes the package five days to get from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia, and then sits in Philadelphia for five days and counting. Come on, post office!

Not something I typically can be bothered getting my knickers in a twist over. Though I did get frustrated with comicexposure who took 5.5 months to send an order after the books were available ..

I guess it all depends on the type of seller and buyer you are. I use to put it takes 5 business days to ship, but I think ebay recently took away the option. I sell only occasionally, but for almost 20 years, with 100% feedback(keep in mind this includes the ebay wild west days when sellers and buyers could leave negative feedback, leading to spectacular flame wars). I never expect to get anything right away on ebay. If I want something right away, I'll buy it on Amazon. I try and ship within the 3 "business" days I have listed, but if something happens...I don't. To take it one step further, I guess I'm a real dick because if someone pays, and then emails me 15 seconds later asking "where is my item" I will often just refund the money because I don't want the hassle of someone impatient with me on the 1st day. If for some reason, I really mess up and ship late, I often just refund the cost of shipping. I think there have been unreasonable expectations placed on many sellers on ebay. I guess if its your business, you approach it differently. For me its not.

...and someone else said it already, I think it mostly boils down to communication. I work full time as a teacher, have a family blah, blah, blah, so sometimes @#$! happens and there are issues. I find if I communicate the problem, or perception of a problem, it is often solved quite easily.

Now this is an example of what I would consider to be unacceptable.

MY post office is open 24/7 except holidays. I drop it off within 20 minutes of getting paid, even if it is 1am.. I make sure it's out on the trucks asap.. here is what I write on my ebay descriptions

"This is the actual item pictured you are purchasing, so please look at the pictures carefully. The item does not have any cracks, and comes from a smoke free home. SHIPPING IS FREE. I cover it from the total cost of the item. I ship USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Medium Box which includes a tracking number which I provide upon payment. This not only protects you as a buyer, but myself as a seller, as well) to addressee in the United States. Reasonable buyer requests regarding shipping maybe accommodated. *Unless it is a dire emergency I have to take care of, I will always ship and provide a tracking number within 24 hours of FULL payment received. Non Payers will be reported to eBay.*

The post office in Dayton that I go to has a 24 lobby. So it's nice on my way in to work at 5am. However, the crew doesn't always scan the item. Many times the first scan is at the bulk mail center in Cincinnati. When I lived in Cincinnati, the first scan was always at the drop off location, That said, I state 3 days handling time, but try to get everything out the next day.

LOL, on a different note...some of the best comics in the BEST condition I have ever received have come from Canada...they must love their comics and care for them better than we do in the United States!

Yeah the lobby is always open, I am not happy about the Parking lot, its poorly lit, and sometimes the drop off is full so I just have to wait it out for the AM.

I am a lazy shipper.

Stated handling time, 2 days. It’s usually 3. Sometimes I’ll sit on it for a week before getting around to it, but will ship a faster tier in that case.

I should be better, but am not.
