Ok..what???
I was just moving my 2018 purchases from the Purchase tab to the normal inventory tab in excel and figured I would look up Eightball #1 as it caught my eye...

so a) $7,750 for a 9.6!! really?? why in the world?? - why is this book apparently worth so much??
and b) $240,000 estimated 9.8!!!!!!
I think their logic is massively flawed!!!

I should probably send mine in for grading (90% sure it is 1st print - need to finish mudding and painting the basement so I can get to my books again![storage area full of furniture]) - even at 9.6 I should make out good!!

I'm not sure where this site gets their info.

This should shed some more light.

This kind of pricing for any modern book, regardless of print run, with multiples of that kind between grade points, just seems nuts (to me). I suspect the escalating market value for this book won't last and when a reckoning comes it'll leave some collectors holding a relatively empty bag.

Let me put it another way, I wouldn't want to be standing behind the eight-ball when the bubble for that comic pops.

Unless CBCS has a 9.8, there are no 9.8 slabs in the world.

@KatKomics - I am very surprised that Go Collect would list prices for this comic with so few sales.

PS - Happy Birthday, and I hope yours is the only 9.8!

Just browsing around on gocollect, they are so way off on their pricing I would avoid that info like the plague.

For example, a Fantastic Four number 48 last sold on Heritage at the November 15-17 2018 auction for 11,700 US dollars including buyers premium. They have it listed at 12,500.

Sorry a 9.6 white pages, I assume they are increasing the value based on their estimations?

Thanks!!

mine is ungraded at the moment - wasn't even thinking about getting it graded - one can dream about 9.8 made up prices though!!

There may be collectors out there that have that on their want list for that price. I wouldn't totally discount it.

Maybe I'll include it in my next submission...If I get a 9.8 I'll list it and see!! I'll even give a 30% discount (USD to CAD conversion)!!

Like @esaravo said, part of the problem is that they're basing their estimates on 15 sales, and it looks like only 6 this year. I'm not a member but I did look on eBay briefly and it looks like a couple of 9.4's might have sold in the $200s, so that part is roughly correct. I don't know where the 9.6 number comes from but the rest of it is all in the asterisk next to the 9.8.

They haven't actually seen any 9.8s sold so they're guessing the value based on their model. If you click the model button you see that a 9.0 or 9.2 is kind of the 'default' price, with a weight of around 1, and a 9.4 isn't that different. But then it skyrockets to 32 for a 9.6 and 1000 for a 9.8. I don't know exactly how they pick the model weights but I'm guessing that they have other books similar to this one somehow (could just be number graded at different grades, could be publisher, no idea) where the value skyrockets at the top end and so they apply that to this book. Since they don't have many actual sales to adjust the model it looks crazy.

You can play with the model weights to get something you find more reasonable and use that to guess what a 9.8 should sell for. They still expect a strong curve, so cutting the 9.8 weight from 1000 to 100 still means a value of $24,000. With so few sales and knowing nothing about this book, I don't have any guesses as to what would be plausible. But I do know if you look at eBay sold listings there are plenty of low numbers there.

Wait a minute. I looked at the number again. That is unreasonably high. I could see someone paying a few K for it in 9.8.
