GOLDEN AGE "WESTERN COMICS"8072

PEDIGREED... Again! martymann private msg quote post Address this user
Just as the Golden Age "FUNNY ANIMAL" Comics have faded in
popularity, so it seems that "WESTERN COMICS" from that same
time period have lost their appeal to collectors. Titles
that populated the newsstands contained familiar characters
from radio, movies and early TV...and offered a chance to
follow their adventures until we saw them again in the theater
or heard them on the radio.
FAWCETT COMICS seemed to have the most titles with "Live Stars"
of the day...here are a few of my favorites...if you have any
please share.

A couple of FAWCETT titles I never had were
LASH LaRUE WESTERN and ROCKY LANE WESTERN.

After doing some digging I’ve come to the conclusion that I have nothing that qualifies to post on this thread. Still looking forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with!🙂

@martymann - I will see what I have, Marty. I have a few from the 1950’s, but many don’t really make the Golden Age cut (meaning most are not pre-Comics Code).

Here's Gene Autry 43, a nice cover starring the original Singing Cowboy.

Gene Autry 12, with a hook-handed villain! It has a very fun story to read.

I have a stack of raw western comics myself. The majority are Silver or Bronze age. However, I did find this Golden Age in my computer files. I'll have to do more digging to see what I have.

Here are the few I know I have: first one has a Schomburg cover

And the last one, how can you say no to a cowboy with some kittens!!!

So I’m a youngish collector and am glad with the drop off, not as expensive to collect. From my understanding most of the older folk who grew up with the westerns lived closer to those ruff ridding times and unfortunately those feelings have been lost to the generations following. I should also say I’m from the southwest and have always had a fond imagination of what the past in my area holds!

I came into collecting towards the end of the popularity for Westerns.
The ones I own are things I picked up when buying collections. I own very few.

I'm not sure if this counts. It probably doesn't.
