It looks like his signature changes as the years pass. It seems like a 1984 signature.

Since I'm on the subject, if a CGC MGC#4 doesn't say first printing on the label is it safe to think its a first printing? Because there were I think like 6 printings of MGC#4.

I believe the printing is only designated on the label if it is not a first print.

His signature has become less legible over time, but the Claremont definitely looks like his.

How did you come to that conclusion? It is pretty consistent with sigs of his from the early '80s. It wasn't until the early '90s that he started with the scribbling.

That looks very similar to some I got signed in the early '80s.

You know what, after seriously digging and doing research, it seems that Chris Claremont's signature went "lazy and slanted" after 1990. His "T" on the end certainly changed from 2 loops and a cross to now one loop and a line going back across from the left

So a pre-90/ 80s signature is more loopy and vertical. I digress! It also seems to depend on what type of marker/pen/sharpie he is using. We are looking at all different types here.

Chris was part of the Marvel Tour back in the early '90s. It was the first time I had seen him in about 10 years. He would get a stack of books and literally scribble his name across the logo of each one. It was horrible. After talking to him it was pretty obvious that he was pissed off about dealers flipping his signed books so he was going to make them about as unsightly as possible. I understand where he was coming from but it was a dick move for collectors who just wanted to get some personal books signed.

Man that story makes everything a lot more concise and clear. That makes a lot of sense why his signature is so bipolar.

Did you see the one where he signed right over the top of Stan Lee's signature?

No, but it doesn't surprise me. I've met Chris a few times in non-signing settings and he's very nice, however, I have seen him at signing and wondered what happened to piss him off that day.

I thought it was Stan who did the dick move and signed over another signature?

I have 10 letters in my last name. As I, and my hands, get older my signature gets shorter.
