Dispute Process on Grade for Book795
Collector | Dave1984 private msg quote post Address this user
Just got a shipment of books back. I am very puzzled by the grading of 1 book. Is there some type of Dispute process I am just very puzzled how this book could come back as anything less than a 9.4 and it came back as a 9.0. Thanks Dave |

I don't know about a dispute process, but what do the graders notes say?

Did you check the grader notes? Maybe they saw something you misssed?

Just snap on the QR code on the back of the label and it will show the grader notes.

Download a QR reader on your smartphone. Or you can also just type the books serial number into the website, I'll see if I can find the link.

Ok, on the home page click on Services, then click on Grading Notes. Then type your serial number into the search box. If it's an older pre-migration slab it might not work until the migration is done, newer books should work fine.

Thanks all for the advice, I found the grader notes- here is the note that I think downgrades the book- several tiny spine stress break color tiny indent left side back cover does not break color light creases top back cover does not break color light creases top back cover does not break color I have looked through my grading guide and 9.0 is the first grade that allows any type of indent as a flaw. However I am just not seeing it on the back of this book. Very puzzling |

Also, certain issues will now be more difficult to see now that it's in the slab

It sounds like if you had us press it, it would have graded closer to what you thought, depending on how many CB's are on the spine.

How bad are the color breaking spine stress marks? I'd say those are the biggest deal because they break color.

i'll snap a picture of the spine

It says in the notes the breaks are tiny, doubt I will see them in pictures. It is unlikely tiny breaks on the spine will knock it down to 9.0, it usually takes another significant defect.

Here are some pics of the spine- looks pretty darn good to me |

Part of the reason is multiple notations on graders notes, plus (several) color breaks. That will do it! The spine color breaks are clear on the scans too.

From the photographs I believe I can see up to 7 CB tics (some look light, but I think I can see them).

I don't have access to my overstreet guide at the moment, but in the middle of it is a line chart graph that shows the range of minimum and maximum number of flaws allowed for each grade level.

CBCS doesn't use Overstreet. If someone is going to swear by Overstreet, why use CBCS (or anyone else???)

Thanks for everyone's comments I appreciate it. Does CBCS publish their standards? It's hard to compare if they don't list these

I see 4 color breaks at spine without any real effort placed. One would think a 9.4 would not have this many. I would call it a 9.2

Right CBCS does not go by Overstreet, I was just presenting an example of how a certain number of overall flaws can move a book down in grade.
