| @Gamecube2482 I'm extremely pleased; I didn't get a single book back with Newton Rings. Also, I submitted 11/16/18, and 30 of the 70 books came back 12/17/18. The other 40 moderns are graded & ship home Friday; with the holidays in between, I don't think I'll see them until 12/28/18, but I'm always willing to be pleasantly surprised. So yeah, a four to six week turn-around at CGC, instead of the twenty-three weeks I waited for CBCS before I got tired of waiting & requested the return of my books + refund. That's my opinion on the TAT aspect. On grading, I still think CBCS is slightly more stringent/accurate, and the Verified Signature Program is a huge plus, for those books that are signed but not witnessed. Unfortunately I had a couple books witnessed by CBCS at a show, but as I was unwilling to out-wait the eternal TAT, they wound up on the green label instead. On slab construction, I'm kinda torn. The new, post-Newton CGC cases are stout & obviously thicker than the CBCS cases. The plastic is also somewhat clearer than the CBCS case; but the downside to the CGC case that doesn't really come across in the photos is that is has what appears to me as a slight blue tint to the plastic. When comparing a raw to a slabbed of the same book at equivalent quality, it does throw the color off just enough to be noticeable. Overall I'm satisfied with the quality of the grading and the product from both grading houses. I have my reservations with CBCS at this time, as noted at length elsewhere, so as long as I'm getting good product at prompt TAT from CGC, that's where my orders are going for the time being. I do prefer the slimmer CBCS cases, and apparently there is a new case CBCS is prototyping that I'm eager to see once rolled out. When that happens, and TAT's become consistent & reasonable, I'll consider putting in future orders. |

| MAIL CALL!!!! So these books were ones that I submitted back in July when I first got into graded books. This was well before I started looking into cleaning and pressing of books, so some of these I know would have been improved with a press...anyways, I'm happy. Here's what I got... Happy with the 9.0 on the Apocalypse book...The A vs X Bradshaw Variant I certainly could have pressed into a higher grade due to non color breaking thumb bend at the top rear of the book.  The TMNT book is another that could have graded higher with a press. These were the free variants from NFCC a few years back and were certainly manhandled by volunteers there. I rolled the dice on the better looking of the two copies I had, they were close in condition. I might send the other one in after a press and see how much it improves. I'm happy with the Secret Wars and it being a Blue Galactus variant, which I didn't know about when sending it in...  How can I not be happy with the 9.8 on Deadpool? I loved this variant when it came out...and joined the Spawn club.  Not bad grades on a Lethal Protector (that's a red cover with bad lighting) from my childhood and again the Old Man Logan cover (which I really dig) could have helped with a press...  haha..I actually thought the Spider-Man would grade lower. This book is from my childhood, it's been camping with me, on day trips, car rides...it's had a rough life (as noted by the fold down center in the notes). This book was purely sent in to encapsulate what Spider-Man was to me as a kid and the cover that I associated with Spider-Man and really to preserve the memories attached to this book. It's literally worthless to anyone except for myself...and the other is a 7.0 First appearance of Alice Cooper, which I'm also glad to have back.  |

This one came in the mail today. I used the 15% off ebay coupon last weekend and it got me in a little hot water with the wife. I found out that if your PayPal (I call it my Play Money account - it's pretty much only used by me for comics) balance doesn't cover the item's cost BEFORE the discount, the charge defaults to your credit card. So my wife gets an alert for the charge to our credit card for this comic, which she wasn't expecting. Thank goodness it's Christmas time. I ordered a few last minute presents and paid for them with my PayPal, and it's all good. Now I will know better for the next coupon. |
