New To Your Collection #47941

Collector GanaSoth private msg quote post Address this user
@Drogio OK, but I was going by a reputable comic book price guide site that claims that the color variation was recalled.
I wasn't "intentionally" posting misinformation to deceive people as I felt I was being accused of.

Dark just has it out for me anyway; he doesn't like me, and I can care less.

Dark. Don't talk to me anymore. Directly or indirectly (as in using my post or name in your comments.) I will show you the same common courtesy.
Thanks for your understanding.

Collection purchase from yesterday. Nothing stellar. A LOT of Newsstands though.

9 1st Doomsdays, 5 or 6 Death of Superman 1st prints, a lot of Knightfall era Batman.

No good old stuff.

Probablem? The boxes wreak of weed. It was like that cloud that follows Pig Pen around when the seller got out of his car.

Walked into my LCS this morning and found a book I'd been searching for in the wild. Tales of the Teen Titans #44 for a Perez AW...found the whole Nightwing story. Needs pressing, but looks in pretty decent condition and a Canadian Price Variant at that...

Got this a month or so ago.. Sent it into CBCS and had them encapsulate it for preservation.. I think it's a stunning piece It's got the first appearance's of all three on this page.. Captain America.. Red Skull and Bucky.. Granted it's not the whole book but its what I could afford.. got this from one of our members (Aliens).. by the way a great person to deal with, Fair minded and packs things like he's mailing it to himself..

I had the opportunity a couple weeks ago to spend two days digging through someone's collection. I made it about 10 percent of the way through roughly 1,000 long boxes. He wasn't willing to deal (at all) on the truly premium Golden Age stuff, but I pulled in quite a haul of Silver, Bronze and Copper. Here are a few pics:

To give an idea why I didn't get farther than I did, here's what I was faced with. Compounding this is the fact that you could take down a box and go through it with no problem, but once you were done and ready to move on to the next there really wasn't a place to put that first box except the same spot it was in when you started.

Wow. Just imagine what might be in there. It could take months to go through them. And years to catalog it all. It looks mind boggling.

My back and I hate long boxes so much! That said, I would love to stumble upon something like this.

I know I couldn’t afford it, but I’d have to ask the guy what he’d want for everything?

The collector in me would want to go through every box.

Not really new...got these August 2018 Fan Expo Toronto, but newly graded - received in mail today!!

I feel dirty....normally never buy more than 1 book and never speculate but possibly all of these will go for sale - might keep 1

@Gotlift If you look in the background of the picture, you'll see an extension cord snaking through a tiny window. That window leads to two other rooms as packed as this one.

There's no doubt there's plenty of cool stuff in there, but there's a huge amount of absolute trash as well. Out of every five boxes I went through, three or four were nothing but unadulterated crap. We're talking the worst of mid-'90s drek, dozens of titles I'd forgotten even existed. The kind of things that linger for years untouched in 25¢ bins.

@00slim He was actually up front about what he wanted for everything, as he was hoping I would buy it. I don't wish to sound unkind, as the man is terminally ill and is looking for money to pay for medical bills and make sure his wife is taken care of after he passes. But he was firm on $1 per book (which wouldn't include his Golden Age books). So, with roughly 1,000 long boxes he was looking for about a quarter million. Even if I had that kind of money lying around, I would never even consider a price like that. His wife was less realistic, though she has the good excuse of not knowing much about the market. She didn't really like the percentage of guide price we negotiated (it was pretty damn low). And while my friend and I were going through the boxes, she told us she was planning to just call one of the "We Buy Comics" places that advertise in Overstreet and tell them "all or nothing at 75% guide value." I finally had to burst her bubble and tell her she shouldn't expect more than $5 a box. Maybe $10 on the absolute outside.

Yeah, I understand $1/Book. Even that’s unrealistic with that sort of bulk, though.

@CatCovers @00slim Deals like that you pay $0.10 per book or you walk. Simple as that. No one should pay over that when dealing with bulk long boxes like that. You are getting paid at that point to go through someone else's hoarding problem. In my opinion.

Yeah. While I’m sure there’s plenty of good stuff in there, there would probably be 100 boxes of books you’d want to dump in a landfill.

I finally got these 3 comics. This is a 3 issue mini series called 3 Geeks: Slab Madness. On the cover of #1, on the bottom right corner, there is a guy with a ponytail. That is the artist's rendering of Steve Borock!! On the "notes" of the "slab" for issue #2, it states it is the second appearance of Steve Borock and Paul Litch. I'm assuming that Paul Litch is also on the cover of #1, but I don't know which one he is. I'd guess he is the one next to Borock. I haven't read the comics yet, but I understand it's like an Illuminati tale with CGC being a cult like club. It should be a fun read!!!

@kaptainmyke yeah, that's exactly what I thought, at that point unless there are detailed cataloging and organization systems it is straight up hoarding. At that point, it's not even fun anymore. You have no idea what you have, you never see it, never display, you just have it and can't let go. If the story is the guy is terminal he really should consider helping his wife out because no one wants to deal with that amount of things after someone passes.

I recently lost some storage area to a room conversion and had to get rid of some boxes of comics and it has been joyfully cathartic....like why do I have 3 signed copies of Shadowhawk #1?
