Makes me miss the one I sold. But it went to a good cause, helping fund a personal grail.

Hard to get a decent photo, but I snagged a foil cover Batman: Harley
Quinn that they were selling at Toronto Comic Con (which I think were Vancouver leftovers?!)

@Batman66 It’s misprinted all black. It’s supposed to be a red foil cover.

@Batman66 There was a production error with several of these books where the foil applicator failed to adhere the red/gold foil to the cover(s), so instead of the shiny cover, its a (mostly) Black cover. Since more of the red foil books were produced, there are a few of these out in the wild; but the white error (failure to properly apply gold foil) is extremely scarce, as the gold foil variant was a one-per-retailer book to begin with.

There is also a silver foil cover on this book, but its the foreign (Italian) variant. Those are hard to come by too, and most are in rough shape since they were packaged with a hardcover phone book, but not as rare as the error versions.

Last time I saw a white error online was on eBay around the time the Venom movie came out for $99,000. Its not there now, so I don't know if someone bought it, or if the seller pulled the listing.

Error books don't usually make it out into the wild these days. The occasional double-cover, or right-book-wrong-cover happens from time to time, but the print shops have gotten much better about QC over the years, and the publishers are more willing to scrap a flawed run and reprint the books than they are to allow a box of "flawed" books into the market.

Wasn't the counterfeit copy produced as a black non-foil cover?

There was the regular red-foil cover and the retailer gold-foil cover. Then the two printing error copies, the Italian silver-foil copy and the one counterfeit book.

@Batman66 There is a black cover to the Lethal Protector hardcover trade:

There is a counterfeit version that is all black with no foil residue; those omit the "Marvel Comics" logo in the upper left corner, and some of the crappier counterfeits are also missing the Spider-Man yellow triangle in the upper right, or have a barcode in the lower left instead of the "Oh Man" Spidey sketch. I've never seen anyone try to sell the counterfeit, but MCS has them listed, so maybe they've had a copy at some point? I don't know.

This is the Marvel Mexico reprint; it comes in a three pack with foil cover reprints of Amazing Spider-Man #300 & #316:

This is the silver foil Italian variant, in poly-package w/ hardcover phone book:

This is the silver foil cover freed from its plastic prison:

As an aside, for Venom collectors, the Italian variant when graded will come back as Venom #0, *not* Venom: Lethal Protector #1. Kind of a neat bit of trivia.

Finally, here is the holiest of all Venom holies, the white error (photo courtesy of Heritage Auctions, and likely the closest I will ever get to the white error.):

While not strictly speaking a copy/reprint/variant of Venom: Lethal Protector #1, there is a Shattered Variant cover on Venom: First Host #1 that is a swipe of the V:LP #1:

@Batman66 I got really lucky with getting the collection I'll bore you with my story. About 2 years ago a guy I know sold 2 copies of X-Men 1 and told me after the fact. Said I would have loved to have bought them and to give me first dibs on anything else for sale. So last June he said he wanted to sell the rest of his collection which was 11 long boxes. Bought it all the next day. My collection until then was 1 long box so just like that it increased over 1000%. Sold off 6 boxes of common stuff and sent about a dozen books to CBCS for grading. The only key issue I've sold so far is the Hulk 181.

My one pick-up from a small local Con today. TMNT #1 (2nd Print) CGC 9.0, signed & sketched by Eastman.

I’d prefer not pay for a sig & get a higher grade instead, but I’ve looked for an 8.0+ 2nd Print for years.

While this may not have been on my short list of goals for the year, it really should have been. ✅
