New To Your Collection #47941

Collector Frontier2Xterra private msg quote post Address this user
@kaptainmyke I’m sure there is and I understand. But just not real happy that with the wait, it being ordered new with sigs and being sent to cgc from the shop that I get sent a 9.6. I just find it hard to believe that no others sent from their own store variant / batch that were signed didn’t came back a 9.8 that could have been sent in its place.

Could be wrong though I guess.

@Frontier2Xterra This is from the CGC Census. At least you didn't get one of the 9.4's ... or the 9.0.

@Jesse_O thanks Jesse. Very glad I didn’t. I wonder if bad batch or bad handling.

My guess is that they got them in that condition from Diamond. Having said that, you would think that they would have had someone inspect them and pick out the best copies. Torpedo Comics are not amateurs in the game, so they probably did. But that's also why they say NM and don't promise a grade. It's too easy for something to happen to knock the comics off of a 9.8 condition.

Rough condition but it’s complete (aside from the covers of course)!

@Frontier2Xterra I feel your pain.
I had ordered 2 Virgin variant’s (same book different covers). Signed by the same artist. The place that did this I have always gotten 9.8’s back. Their from California and they were signed at the NY con the sent to CGC.
To much handling can spoil the soup so to speak. They both came as 9.6. 😭😭.
I do see a lot of these facilitated book signings places not guaranteeing 9.8’s anymore. In fact I talked with one place that quit them all together. They claimed they took a hundred books and had them prescreened and couldn’t get 27 at 9.8.
They claimed they had to go to another LCS
To get more books to meet the guaranteed 9.8
They claimed Diamonds printing, packaging and shipping has been big problem. So they threw in the towel for now.
Yep. So I do feel the pain.
Kind of like sending a beautiful old copy that conservatively you think 8-8.5 you have it pressed and they find a piece of baby nat poop 💩 on page three and it comes back 6.0. (Just a example). 🖖

Got mine...

And this...

Quick question on the signed book...when/if I submit do I submit under verification or AW...does COA with barcode count for anything?
Final note...this seller Highclasscomics packed safe, shipped fast and took a deal

Now I'm done for a minute...but that asm 129 be calling me...its calling me

Today's modern age books are tough to get guaranteed 9.8s. IF I see a dark or black cover or I suspect a 9.8 is impossible, I just pre-order and buy online if I gotta have it in a 9.8. Or, I buy 10 at cover price and press them all and send out to CGC and roll the dice. When I do that, it's usually three 9.8s and six 9.6s with a remaining 9.4.

@Enelson The CoA is irrelevant when it comes to grading/signature verification. You’re better off not including it when/if you submit the book for grading.

If you submit the book, you can submit for a regular blue label but the signature will count against the grade as writing on the book. You can also choose to submit for Signature Verification (red label) which will attempt to vefify that the signature is real and will not count against the grade.

Authentic signature is only an option if a CBCS Authorized Witness is present and witnesses the book being signed so pre-signed books don’t qualify

@Enelson - Keep the COA and when you get the graded book back, slip it between the bag and slab (like you have it behind the backing board now). Just curious, why did Roy Thomas sign the cover twice?

No clue why its signed twice
Not the original owner...seems odd. Book is in decent enough shape though...but trying to decide if it's worth paying for red label

That's why I asked, because I think you might have to pay to have both signatures verified.

Well that would certainly suck and not be worth it

Picked this up a little while ago.. I know its Qualified but I was happier with the cost this way the other choice was a much lower grade.. I've wanted one of these for awhile now and when this popped up I sent him a offer and now it's mine.. all in all I'm smiling

Picked this up out of a box of free comics. Looks NM or better a (no ticks or bends or finger prints). Probably won’t stay in my collection long as I can think of other things I can buy for the price this is going for lately.

I now have all the Spider-verse books, now trying to chase all the Greg Land EOSV covers.

Just pulled trigger on a 9.6. Will take closer look when it arrives. Maybe a press will get it to a 9.8. If not a 9.6 will still be good. The 9.8 pricing is a bit much right now.

I have never seen a FCBD comic worth over $5. Is this the one that broke the ceiling for the first time?

I mainly got them because of the John Byrne art on the majority of them. Plus the entire lot of 30 was only $30.34 from an eBay seller. CHEAP & ALL NM!!

There are a few. Infinity is $20+ raw. There’s a Spider-Man that has the first appearance of negative man that’s $10-$20 raw. This one sets the bar now, though.

Can’t believe a 9.8 sold for $400! Insane. Wonder what the print run was on these.

@Drogio give it two weeks and the person who bought it for $400 will be fully regretting that purchase.
