Correct. Rumor has it that he was once blind-folded and was able to smell the color touches in 9 out of 10 books. Impressive. He's like a bloodhound.

Well 10% is better than 0%

But it does highlight how subjective the process for identifying restored books is.

Spotting color touch isn't subjective at all. It's there or it's not.

How about simply shining a light under the cover,(upwards ,backwards I mean) etc, as light shines through will "pop" the touch ups..?

I am not impressed with UV Blacklights.

There are some things a UV Black light can reveal:
Boogers
Saliva
Chalk
Crayon
Oil Pastel Crayons
Oil paint
Feces
Body fluids (saliva, urine, semen)
Food stains
Duller discoloration spot (means nothing)
Brighter discoloration spot (means nothing)
Cleaner detergents
Petroleum Jelly
Salt
Ketchup
Vinegars

What does NOT show up under UV Black Light Inspection:
Blood
Rust
Kool-Aid
Tea
Coffee
Mold
Mildew
Black Sharpie

Well, what I gathered out of this thread is:

UV light will at least let ya know if the original owner of the comic book washed their hands after going to the restroom before touching the comic.
