USPS or FedEx - who will deliver my books safely??7856

Just sold like my 4th and 5th books ever.
Who is going to deliver them safely??

I have 2 old CBCS boxes so I figure comic in box and box in another box with paper/peanuts etc. x2 will work
Of course tracking and insurance and ship them off to their 2 new owners.

I live close to the boarder so to avoid duties etc. I figure I'll ship from inside the US and us my US postal service address as the return address.

Just not sure if one service is better/cheaper than the other??

What value is your book in question. Did you sell it on Ebay and accepted paypal?

Are they slabbed or no? I use USPS priority. I order the non flat rate priority boxes, but for one or 2 you could spend a little more for flat rate, cost you about $14 plus any additional insurance. For raw books, I cut slits in pool noodles and slide the books into the slits.

Never had an issue with USPS and FedEx will be more expensive

I'd go with USPS over FedEx. That's my opinion as someone who has been inspecting materials on a dock for 25 years. FedEx isn't horrible, but I'd still go with USPS. I would never ship anything by UPS.

I use USPS. Use their site to calculate your best option for cost. Depending on weight and location, a medium-sized Priority Mail box usually works best (check out flat rate vs non-flat rate). Here’s a hint, not all medium-sized boxes are the same dimensions - some are a little bit longer than others and work better for slabs. My local Post Office gives me the boxes for free, or you can order them for free also if yours doesn’t have any. Here’s another hint, Priority Mail comes with Tracking and $50 insurance built into the price. If you need more insurance, go in multiples of $100 (the cost is the same for $200 insurance or $150, and so on). If you use old CBCS boxes, they will need to be cut down to fit inside the medium box. I use Gemini mailers now, another expense, but just easier and save time. If you need any help or have any questions, feel free to PM me.

USPS all the way. If it’s eBay, you can print a shipping label right from the seller portal for a discount

Sounds like USPS is the choice!!

Yes these are slabbed and $400 each, priority mal box seems like the way to go, will probably do flat rate and add insurance to get to the $400 mark.

I'm a lenient seller - said $20 flat rate, any lower and they get $$ back, any more and it is still only $20

Is shipping during Christmas time a factor to consider? Do accidents increase during this time?

In my experience, Christmas is a factor for delivery time more than anything else. With so much going through the mail, you can usually count on things taking an extra day or two to get where they're heading.

I haven't noticed increases in damage during the holidays. If you rush the person shipping or request next day on a special truck... the odds are higher it will arrive damaged.

Just measuring things up....medium flat box is tight on length yes??

Might just have to bubble wrap the hell out of it?

@chirock - In my opinion, the longer a package takes to get somewhere, the more chances there are of something bad happening. So I would avoid shipping anything two weeks before and one week after Christmas, just to be safe. I don't even like to ship/mail books during any time of the year unless its on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. I want the books to be in transit and to arrive that week. I worry that they could be lost/damaged/stolen/etc. sitting in a truck or in a storage room over the weekend. And I never write or place stickers that say "Fragile" or "Handle With Care" or "Do Not Bend" on any package. That's just a challenge to someone who is having a bad day.

Think I want the medium priority box and put that box into priority mail box #1095 (slightly larger?)

I do like the idea of putting a slit down the side of pool noodles and using them on the egdes of the slab to protect it.

I have only shipped a couple of slabs and unfortunately, I didn't see that idea in time to use it. But it does work great for raws. I've used it to ship individual and sets of bagged and boarded books with no problems. I grabbed a bunch on clearance at the end of the summer. You can get a couple of medium priority boxes out of a single noodle.

At least now I have a few medium boxes at home so I can pre-pack without rushing if there are more future sales.
I got everything into their boxes and gave them a shake, although not vigorous like a paint machine...more like an etch a sketch shake and nothing seemed to move.

Now to wait for delivery confirmation and hope they make it to their new homes in one piece!!

USPS is killing me - 1 of 3 has details on the tracking but the other 2 show nothing, hope it's just a system update thing!
Maybe I had a typo?? will have to check the receipt when I get home - usually don't make mistakes when keying #'s (accountant)

It's stressful for me and the time it consumes makes it not worth it to me. I value my spare time more.
