Just curious if anyone happens to know how Michael Turner covers keep popping up? He died in '08 so it's going on 8 years now.

Anyone know the story? I'm assuming his family has access to his archives and they're the ones making his pieces available to publishers but I haven't seen anything in writing.

It looks like they're using original Turner sketches and having them touched up by another artist.

@samediarchon Thanks. I did find an article that seems to verify that.

HERE

@1952MB Agreed! Here's hoping some of the proceeds from the sales of these books go to his estate/family.

Aspen still has a good amount of unpublished art that Michael Turner did. Peter Steigerwald who was Turner's long time friend and co-worker is doing the colors for all of these covers.

Remember too, that Aspen was founded by Turner, I'm sure his family still has ownership.

@ThisLand For reference, these are taken from the Michael Turner Tribute book published in 2008, shortly after his death:

I hate how Marvel and DC are using his work just to get a few extra bucks. I refuse to buy any Turner covers that weren't out out before he died. Was one of my favorite artists

It's Aspen, his family owned company, that's getting the most profit from these books, not DC and Marvel.

@Wolverine Exactly what @DarthLego said. They're being released by Aspen MLT, the company that bears his initials, Michael Layne Turner.

And I'm quite happy they're getting the bulk of the money. Because I'm helping their kids college fund a great deal.

Well if that's the case then I'm not as mad then. Just figured they were trying to cash in on a dead guys work.

So is the 2nd Print Batman Turner variant worth anything? Even 50% of what 1st Print is worth?

COLLECTOR dielinfinite private msg quote post Address this user
@JazzyJeffie Well, the first print color variant seems to be going for about $50-$60 with the second print going for about $30

The second print also was limited to 2,000 copies, so there are 1,000 less floating around than the first print.

Here we go again.. All-Star Batman #1 Turner Variant up on the Aspen Store.
ALL STAR BATMAN #1 ASPEN TURNER VARIANT & ARTIST EDITION SET OF 2 (PRE-ORDER)

The pre-order isn't going as crazy as the Batman #1 was. It's still available for pre-order. Does this mean it's not a limited run, because they're relying on pre-order numbers rather than first-come first-serve?

The print run is 5k so people aren't too excited about it.

Thanks for the heads up, @Beamer. What's the best value for money cover (rarity and art) for All-Star Batman #1 in your opinion?
