Why is avengers 4 worth less than a fantastic four 47795

If you look on eBay, the reintroduction of Captain America in avengers 4 in a 4.0 lists for about 1100-1300, while the reintroduction of the submariner in fantastic four 4 lists on Ebay for about1000 more. I think the avengers 4 is so undervalued and should be the other way around. Any though

Demand for Avengers 4 may be higher, but I suspect supply of FF 4 is far less. I haven't really kept up with pricing... just checked out eBay sold for Avengers 4. ![]() |

Probably because FF #4 was, in addition to the reintroduction of Sub-Mariner in the Silver Age, only the fourth appearance of the FF. Plus, FF #4 was published over two years before Avengers #4.

FF4 was published May 1962 and Avengers 4 was published March 1964, is FF4 a rarer book?

There is also the appearance of Cap, um "The Acrobat" disguised, on the cover of Strange Tales #114 which precedes Avengers #4.

Sub-Mariner hasn’t made a movie appearance yet. Movie speculation is driving the price up.

The popularity of a character is what drive the price, hulk 181, way more in volume and age is more than both in a 4.0. I've seen rare books sold for pennies, it's about demand. Really think cap far exceeds namor

I know the movie hype is what's driving the ff4, still think av4 is still way undervalued as a major key issue. Got rid of my lower grade copies and bought a higher grade one while it relatively cheap, thanks for all your input

Going by the CGC census on gocollect, there are way more Avengers 4's than FF. The curves look pretty similar and both have maxes at 4.0 but there are ~80 FF and ~225 Avengers. Clarifying - there are 80 and 225 at 4.0. |

@Batman66 Hulk 1 should be closer to AF15 than it is...they are equally important and Hulk 1 is at least as rare if not more rare.

@nrad that's my point, there are roughly 2800 af15 and roughly 1900 hulk, a 3.0 af15, 30k, 3.0 hulk 1 10k. And I know my numbers are off, but you get the point

Quote:Originally Posted by Batman66 With comic books and value, it is a combination of scarcity and demand. With demand being much more important than scarcity. Ace Comics 11 is much scarcer than Action 1. Ace Comics 11 is the first appearance of The Phantom in comic books four months before Action 1. CGC has grade 13 copies of Ace Comics 11 and 69 copies of Action 1. The Phantom is -- arguably -- the first costumed super hero to appear in comics. But a lot more people want the first appearance of Superman. So Action Comics 1 is what - worth 100x Ace Comics 11? Scarcity matters. But demand matters more. Otherwise New Mutants 98 would be in the dollar bins. Hulk is only sort of close to Spider-Man in significance and demand. While Hulk, Fantastic Four, Justice League, Green Lantern and a few others came BEFORE Spider-Man, none are more important and few even come close to Spider-Man in significance and popularity. Spider-Man defined the silver age of comics. As for the OP's question. Others have answered. FF 4 is far harder to find (CGC has grade 1119 copies) than Avengers 4 (CGC has graded 3x more - 3366 copies) . Two years might not seem like much, but in the history of comic fandom and collecting, the difference between 1962 and 1964 is HUGE. Avengers 4 is much more plentiful. And in this case, there is plenty of demand for both. |

A friend of mine was actually involved with the discovery. He answered the ad and had to coordinate getting another retailer to go check out what was being sold. I was hanging out with him while he was back and forth on the phone that evening. He was explaining the whole "pay copy" thing to me the day they were discovered. |
