Just got my very first order in from this place, and holy cow, the condition of the books are terrible. ALL books have some sort of dings and dents every where. I even paid extra for bags and boards which I don't even need. The box, scratch that, the Christmas paper they used to wrap the books was bought at the Dollar store after Christmas when they are heavily discounted. . That was my first and my last time I will be buying from them. Stay away.

I paid the 10% discount on the newer books. Spawn 290 A&B 4 of each, and a few books that came out two weeks ago.

@DJC_II it is an online store.

Their packaging sucks. Had to call them once and report a damaged book. They sent me another. Seems like if you order from them, buy 5+ comics to ensure they don't send your stuff in a thin cardboard envelope.

I mostly use Midtowncomics and Maverickcomics. They are both great places to buy with minimal issues.

I am trying my first pre-order with mycomicshop. Hope they package the comics well. Haven't tried midtown yet. Is that where most get their pre-orders from?

TFAW is crap. Midtown is okay. You can't go wrong with DCBS, they are great. MCS is great too, although I don't order through them very often.

I've ordered from them twice with no issues. Two 9.8
Midtown is good but tend to always send books with a bottom corner issue.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user

I don't preorder but have ordered from both. They package well. I get my subscriptions through midtown and got one order with a little ding but that's it.

I've had great experiences with MCS. The packaging for slabs is great; airbags, foam corner bumpers, and packing peanuts. I'm not a huge fan of the plastic wrap mummification they do for raw books, but that's only because I get nervous about the torque on the corners when I'm unwrapping the tape. That being said, they use enough bags & tape that I could probably drop the bundle into a full bathtub without harm to the books.

Midtown Comics is a little light on the packing material when its a small order. They generally stack ten or fewer books, put an extra backing board on both sides, and put the stack into a brown paper bag. The bag goes into a standard cardboard mailer w/ some packing peanuts. However, if you place a larger order, they go the extra mile to wrap everything in an outer plastic bag, hit it with a roll of tape, and give it foam bumpers at the corners. When placing small orders with them, I call customer service & request a mailer w/ the foam corner bumpers. They've always been accommodating, and haven't charged extra for the special handling.

I have absolutely nothing positive to say about ComicXposure. The packaging is on par with the customer service: absolute trash.

Mile High Prices...er, Comics, does a good job of packaging & mailing books. Stout mailing box, extra backing boards front & back, packing peanuts. I've never had a problem.

Jay & Silent Bob's Secret Stash goes the extra mile. Individually bagged & boarded, w/ an additional board taped to the front, wrapped tightly in an outer plastic bag, and boxed up with airbags or packing peanuts. The only thing I don't like when ordering from the Stash is that they pack everything into a single box; so if you order anything else (Pop's, ViewAskew merchandise, etc.) with your comics, its all packed up together.

@Poka , @Masochism, @esavaro, & @drogio do a fantastic job of packaging books, if you've considered buying books from forum members. My apologies to anyone I forgot to mention. I've not had a bad experience when buying from people here in the forum; ya'll are on point when mailing/handling books. A special mention: could probably drop a bomb on a mailer from @Poka, and the books inside would be just fine; they're that stout.

i guess I am that one guy. I have done business with TFAW for years and never had issues with packaging. In fact some of my 9.8s were from them after I took the raws to cons for signing and if a problem they were on top of it. but it could be just a bad day when shipping.

i always upgrade the shipping to priority mail with tracking and insurance and that usually makes them package properly

Mike Richardson founded Dark Horse Comics and he's also the founder and President of the Things From Another World. I've been underwhelmed by the way he runs his businesses.

This +1

I have not had an issue with TFAW either, granted I have only ordered 3 times and received 4 deliveries. The one time they messed up an order they sent me out my book right away and let me keep what they sent on accident. I did not need a San Diego Comic Con Comic #3, but I appreciated the gesture.

That being said, try giving customer service a call and see what they say. Maybe they end up replacing the books for you.

I set up a pull list with TFAW and every shipment (6) had damaged corners, which look to have happened in transit due to the mailer they use. I never had a problem with customer service and they always made it right but it got to be very annoying to have to deal with.

Point is that I am kind of using them all, tfaw, midtown, forbidden planet, dcbs, 5kidcomics, big time collectibles, mycomicshop, thecomicmint, Frankie’s, sad lemon, 7ate9comics, milehigh etc

I believe they all try their Best but there will always be one box which does not make it, but have not experienced any consistent issues.

Nothing valuable but a few books which are now more expensive reordering. Didn’t wanted the hassle with midtown so I dealt with my main courier who delivered and who has agreed to refund the value.

My experiences:

ComicXposure: I think their shipping delays rival cbcs modern with pressing. Their customer service is also non existent. Don't give them Your business, as they need to go out of business such that they can do no more harm.

Midtown Comics: I used order through them all the time. I then received several shipments in a row where they shipped clearly damaged comics and it was t the result of shipping (boxes were immaculate). I tried to get them replaced/refunded/retuned but they only offered me 10% on what I had paid...and since they were preorders it amounted to pennies. At least they respond. I also don't like that if you miss the final order cut off date you can't order a comic until the week prior to release. I've had to order from them recently as other online retailers were sold out of a particular comic....and had no issues.

Sanctum Santorium: I've only ordered a couple things, but never had an issue. I I don't think they offer the biggest selection (limited open order variants, for example) and therefore don't order much (most of my online orders are variants my lcs does not order much of).

Golden Apple Comics: I can't recall an issue, but don't order much. Similar to Sanctum I don't think their open orders are a huge selection, or they may just sell out quickly.

Unknown Comicbooks: I've done all my recent presales through UKCBs. Probably about 15-20 orders total this past year. I may have recieved one or two books that may grade 9.4, the the rest have been 9.6 or better. They seem to offer just about everything that's an open order and you can keep ordering after FOC up until they sell out. The only issue I've had is a few weeks back they were not shipping my orders, even though all issues had been out over a week. I think they attended a few cons (Baltimore and NYC) and were short on staff those weeks. Got my last couple shipments pretty quick. I'm sticking with them in the near term as, they've beaten the competition by a land slide.

Something to consider: I only order 3 comics at a time. That's what fits in a standard comic mailer and Anything more I've learned companies stack comics in larger bundles with minimum support and throw them in a box, similar to what Poka's picture shows...and corners get dinged. Plus some outfits bump you from first class to priority staring with the 4th issue, doubling the shipping costs, negating any savings from pre-ordering them.

Never tried them due to their reputation so I order comicxposure books through New York collector cave who seems to have a relationship with comicxposure and sends on time

I’ve been using TFAW for years and only have issues with single comics. Bought a few high priced variants as well. They package those books extremely well. Put them in sleeves and bubble wrap the books. Also use midtown. Have subs through both sites lol

@Poka is absolutely correct; the only way to get ComicXposure books is to buy through New York Collector Cave. The owner is a stand up guy; highly recommended.
