I've been a member dealer for CBCS for the last couple of years. I was slowly building up a trade for sending submissions on behalf of my customers in the UK to CBCS (which was tough after a lot of people were let down by the CBCSUK debacle and a lot of people lost confidence).
It was going OK though till the turnaround times got worse and about a year ago, I announced to customers that I would be only sending less frequently. My most recent batch though has been beyond a joke, I finally received an email saying that part of it has now moved to the grading stage after they've had them since August 20th (they didn't get pressed).
I don't have the time or patience to keep answering customers emails about how long their books are going to be, it makes me look bad though it's beyond my control and with the delays on this most recent one being the worst yet, I've had to announce that I'm stopping sending submissions for customers now. It was an uphill fight to build the trade I had over here and now sadly CBCS doesn't have a good name any more in the UK community. I really hope it turns around but it's going to take a long time just to get back to where it was. 🙁

Here’s a new one... order is now set to Billing even though I’ve already paid. However... one of my comics says rejected. Why would it say rejected? I have a balance of (14.00)

???

@TheComicDoJo - There are lots of reasons books get rejected. They could be too large or even too thick to fit in the slabs; they could have studs, buttons, or even too much overhang that they could get damaged if slabbed; or they could contain offensive covers or material that is against CBCS policy. There are probably some other reasons too.

Sorry I can't answer your question but when was your received date again? I know you've been waiting forever like me. Beginning of August?

I'm trying to figure out why my books from June are just hanging out "in the grading room" for weeks. I thought when books get back from pressing they move to the front of the queue. I am trying to stay positive about all this but it's getting ridiculous!!

I've been waiting the same amount of time. I don't mind the wait, but I've been around long enough to remember the constant barrage of commentary about how it was going to be bigger, better, faster than "the other guys".

Nothing more embarrassing than not living up to your own hype.

Ah ha!!! TMNT I believe is too big for the slabs!! CBCS does not currently have a magazine size holder.

And while the TMNT books are not offensive the Bay movies most certainly are!!!

I literally sent a ninja 4 book as one of my first submissions. The book is too big. I ended up asking for a estimated grade and got an 8.5.

Thanks everyone! Didn’t know it was to big for CBCS to handle. Well... now that’s all handled, can CBCS send me my order? I’ll save my balance for a future sub.

I recently had two other Conspiracy #1A & B issues graded and I have to say I was happy with the service. I will have the books back Monday and the emails and updates worked as advertised. No complaints with my first experience.

Today I randomly received a check from CBCS so I called to find out about it and ask about my books. A very helpful woman went down to the grading room to find out about my late June order with pressing. She said they are working on orders from the week before mine and my comics should start grading next week.

Yes the wait SUCKS but I'm definitely happy with every conversation I've had with support. I was starting to get frustrated but I know my turn is soon. So anybody at the end of June with pressing like me, we are getting close!

@Karlhungus I am glad to hear that, I am about to send in 4 more using the fast pass. I used 2 day modern for the first two, the service was great and my books will be back on Monday.

Woohoo! My first order from Fan Expo is now tagged COMPLETED! No grades posted yet, but I'm sure they are on the way.

My TAT was 20 weeks 5 days. You know what? Not even mad. I know the guys are doing their best, and thats just how long it took.

Now its torture though waiting for the grades to be posted...

I was just thinking...its going to suck a lot if they all graded poorly. All that waiting time, and then to see poor grades has me thinking "meh, just keep em." lol

Thankfully I had the always lovely Tim helping me choose which ones were worth sending in.

Fingers crossed!

So I was wrong, grades are posted. And man, I did well.

Actually credit where it'd due. Tim helped screen my absurdly high stack of books, and because of him I got back a great result. REALLY happy with the list, other than my poor shitty wolverine book that I think I actually submitted by mistake. Whoospie.

Really happy that this Mattina doodle one came back 9.8....

Side note, the design of the user control panel is really weird. Eyeball icon is odd, and you can't open books up in new tabs to see multiples. Would also be nice to be able to add images of the books themselves, unless I'm missing how to do that.

If you mean have an image (like a scan) of your submitted book, you can but you have to pay for it.

Could go two ways really.

Either a default image, but that would take some serious work to connect that all together.

I think a better solution would be to allow users to either upload their own image (stock or actual scan) or at least link to it from somewhere.

Otherwise what's the point of that giant grey box next to the book details? Seems like a dirty tease to me

That's for the "Image" option. You can select to have CBCS do an image of your comic in the slab. It's an add-on service. Then that image will appear in that gray box.

I don't think they would ever allow users to add their own pictures. There is the potential of people swapping out pictures that way. This way, there is no question that the book pictured is the one that was originally in that slab.

What would it matter what picture I put in there? Since its only visible to me, what would the benefit be of putting in something that doesn't represent the book? Not like I can use he photo as a means to sell the book I think.

Anyhow, looks like no pics there for me. Good thing I like giant slabs of grey.

Anyone with the slab number can access the graders notes. The image is included in the graders notes Here is an example from one of the featured comics. Or you can type in the number yourself to see - 18-3107CD9-008. So you see, you CAN use the image and notes to sell and to double check a purchase.

Well I did what I said I would never do and I caved and went back to CGC to give them a second chance. Wasn’t my plan but the TATs are just too long. Don’t know if I’ll tegret it or not but until the TATs change it’s either the other or nothing for me atm 😔

My comics from late June finally have movement! My order is a mix of 3 modern and 2 expanded. On my invoice, the moderns are in labels and the expanded still say received. Anybody know if this is normal?

Thanks! I'm finally getting excited to get my books back!

If a press screen checks if pressing is required, do you get charged pressing if it's not needed?

I submitted this book very recently and it's due to arrive on Friday. Given backlog, I'm assuming it didnt get pressed. If it did, I have books that were submitted that are still not done and only difference was those books didnt have press screen.

No, if they screen it and decide to press you would be charged at that point and it would go into pressing on your dashboard/invoice. If they decide not to press you aren't charged (beyond the press screen you should've already paid) and it moves on to grading, or I guess back to you if you weren't having it graded.

if you chose press screen and they decide a press is needed you would be charged for the press but would they refund the press screen charge? not likely eh?

From the invoice, it says it was pressed. I guess I shouldn't question it, just happy to be getting a book in a few weeks (if even that) with a high grade is more than what I expected. =)

That would be nice, but no. They did provide the screening service, after all.
