I believe he is just trying to retrieve old lures. I’d rent a paddle boat to get bobbers back back in the day.

I don't fish.

Copper river salmon arrived today.

Whole sockeye

Price atm $47.99 a pound for fillet.

I always wait a few weeks before I buy fresh salmon. šŸ‘

Then I split it with one cut.

Then take the center bone out.

Then trim them and take the belly bones out.

Yep that I do.

But the prices are always crazy for copper river.

The king fillet is at $78.99 a pound.

I'll wait a couple of months and buy whole king salmon off Washington coast for around $100 and fillet it out and get 16 half pound servings out of it.

I'm a Halibut guy myself. But one summer in college I worked at a resort on an Indian Reservation. Only the Tribal Members were allowed to fish on that part of the river...I believe it was the Deschutes River. One of the guys would go out every so often on his little boat with a half case of beer and come back with a truckbed half full of Salmon to sell to the resort restaurant. I'm thinking it was probably Chinook Salmon?

I need to get some salmon fishing in my life. My goal is either a Canadian or Alaskan fishing trip in the upcoming years.

I apologize for not posting more to this thread, but I have been going out most Saturdays to try out some new ponds in nextdoor Massachusetts. Here's a decent largemouth bass from a place called A-1 or Stump Pond. It's basically a super weedy stump-infested flooded swamp. I caught a few on Texas-rigged rubber worms, but this one chased a white spinnerbait near a small island.

Heading up to Lake Cobbosseecontee in Maine early tomorrow for the annual (except for last year) fishing trip with the guys. I hope the bass (especially the smallmouths) are biting more than the black flies!

First day - very windy, but we caught a few. Mike grabbed the best one, a 3.5 pound largemouth.

if the weather holds I'll head out in the next few days to give some vintage rods and reels a try.

never tried bait casters but I have from the 40's? a Langley Streamlite Model 310 and a Langley Plugcast Model 360

Gonna try the 310 first...the 360 was my grandfathers and I have his 5ft? metal rod - need to dig out the rod that belongs to the 310 but I want to try the metal rod first - just seems odd!

I got a new toy - an inflatable kayak - so I can get away from the regular shoreline casting I do.

Since these are vintage they don't have the brake systems that modern ones do but I've seen that if I give a few casts to guage what type of distance I'll normally be doing then maybe play out a bit more and put some tape down to avoid bird nesting this thing!! apparently you also want to stop the bait in the air before it hits the water or the sudden stop again results in bird nest!!

It will be an interesting experiment (that will still somehow end up in a bird nest!!!)

This isn't my fish, but I had to share this after I saw it.

"There is officially a new Minnesota record for catch-and-release northern pike.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) said it certified the 46 1/4-inch pike, caught June 19 on Basswood Lake, as the new state record. It was caught by Brecken Kobylecky, a 15-year-old from Geneva, Illinois."

I'm curious how they certify a fish that was released. In NYS, the fish must be weighed on a certified scale (in a deli, meat market, etc.) and be witnessed. Which means, the fish never survives.

That is an amazing fish, but I'm kinda surprised the record isn't bigger in Minnesota, which is a Pike haven.

@Zipper you sparked my interest. So, I went to the Minnesota DNR site and found the following.

"There are two kinds of Minnesota state records: One for catching and keeping the biggest fish in each species based on certified weight; and the other for the length of a caught-and-released muskellunge, northern pike, lake sturgeon or flathead catfish."

Same here. Yesterday was brutally cold (Minus 11 at 7 am). So we waited until today when it was a balmy 15 degrees. In the boat I can stay out all day and enjoy the day, whether we are catching or not. I'm not so patient with ice fishing... especially if it is windy. If they are not hitting, my son and I stay a few hours and call it a day.
