Never been ice fishing, but went fishing plenty of times it was so cold you had to dip your rod/reel into the water to break the ice free, then cast again immediately.

Plus it helps to have a thermos full of hot coffee loaded with sugar to keep from going into hypothermia.

On the ice right now, watching the snow fall. Very peaceful.

It started to snow pretty hard. I had 5 flags and caught 4 pickerel. After about 3 inches of snow, I called it a day.

Got out on the ice again yesterday, this time with my fishing buddy Al. We have been fishing together since high school (about 44 years). Walked what seemed like miles - to the pond, all over the pond, and then back to the truck. Neither of us caught a bass, but a few pickerel were kind enough to bite. The best part was just being outdoors, enjoying the day, and doing something normal (for me anyway). The hot dogs and burgers were great too.

@esaravo my son said he wants to try ice fishing -this year is a no go and we don't have any kit and lock down, and, and , and

Might drive north next year and invite his grand dad...maybe we'll cheat and just rent a hut on lake Simcoe or something, make a weekend of it when the world is normal again! The boys can go fishing and let the ladies check out the town

I'd be scared shitless if that thing was in my kitchen. Hopefully when he saw you he set the dog down and ran out of the house?

My fishing buddy Al bought himself a new Bass Tracker for his 60th birthday and he took me and another fishing buddy (Mike) out on its maiden voyage yesterday on Wordens Pond. The weather was perfect, mostly sunny, some wind, and temperatures got up near 60 (39 in the morning though). The water is warming up (52-53 degrees), and the bite was tremendous for this time of year. What a great day.

I don't fish. Hence the stuffed fish.

But my question is more along the lines of if you went fishing and was able to pull up a precious metal. I dont wear jewelry so I don't know if gold or other precious metals are magnetic or not.

Neither gold, silver, or platinum are magnetic. Depending on purity and if just plated though, you may find things.

So if a magnet will essentially just pull up junk, it hardly seems worth the trouble then. ...

I've seen some pretty cool stuff brought up with magnet fishing. Guns, safes, motorcycle frames, 4wheeler frames, tools, knives, etc.

I believe he is just trying to retrieve old lures. I’d rent a paddle boat to get bobbers back back in the day.
