After Harley Quinn, I'm glad I'm not really excited for Suicide Squad (comic or movie). I suppose if the right cover comes along I might pick it up, but I'm not jumping into it like I did Harley

I think the movie will be pretty good. Margot Robbie in Tarzan was great. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with it and if it can turn into a franchise. I'm just glad Snyder and Nolan aren't directing it.

I am so irritated about Aspen, that I am not interested unless Artgerm, Del'Otto or JSC do a cover.

I've nothing against Robbie, I don't think I've seen her in anything. I've never been a big David Ayer fan and I haven't read enough Suicide Squad to override that.

They're doing the same thing with the SS movie that they did with The Lone Ranger; advertising it for months and months to the point where I'm almost sick of the film before seeing it.

I'm not going to hold the Aspen fiasco against all of the shops but it highlights why I only buy what I like and why 99+% of what I buy is for my own collection. And, I personally think a lot of these variants won't hold a great deal of value over time. There are a TON of variants out there already and more coming out every week.

I'm disapointed that Midtown is doing a cover for Suicide Squad with only Harley on the cover. Where's the rest of the team?

@DarthLego They're on the ground? Look closer.

@DarthLego They're in there. They blend a bit into the background since it's all black and white. Deadshot's arm is on the ground between Harley's feet.

Oh ok, I see, so the entire team is down but Harley is the only badass still standing? Sounds legit.

I am not sure if I will get many of this book. I guess it all depends on the art.

I've heard reference to "the Aspen fiasco" before recently, but I'm pretty new here ... what is the Aspen fiasco?

@Tedsaid That was the issue with the Harley Quinn Rebirth Variant. They had 3 different covers of increasing rarity. They're not exactly cheap but people are excited for them. They stated before pre-orders opened that the rarest only had a print run of 1000 copies, one of if not the rarest Harley Quinn Rebirth cover, most others having print runs of 3000 for color versions and 1500 for black and white versions. I don't know if it was ever stated but it was believed the other two covers had a print run of 3000 and 2000, or something to that effect, respectively.

Anyways, so the day of the pre-orders open and Aspen's site is slammed. The site slows to a crawl but the rarest cover still sells out in about half an hour. The other two are gone before the end of the day. Not everyone got one but hey, that's how these things work out.

A day or so passes and Aspen announces, via email blast and facebook, that due to the great demand for the book, they decided to up their original order and open up a second wave of pre-orders. So now, books that were originally sold as limited to 3000/2000/1000 copies would now actually be limited to 9000/6000/2500 copies and the response was overwhelmingly negative.

Customers who rushed to buy the rare cover thinking it was a rare collector's item now had pre-ordered a book with an unremarkable print run and the other two covers were now the most common of all Harley Quinn variants. There were some people who defended the move saying "real fans" could now get the covers instead of just resellers but most just felt it was a cash grab by Aspen, since the prices for the books did not change despite the much increased print run, and felt a second print run, as Aspen had just done with the Batman Rebirth cover was what they should have done instead of devaluing everyone's existing purchases.

A few hours go by and later that night, Aspen reaponds due to the overwhelmingly negative reaponse. Their compromise is to increase the print run as previously stated except for the rarest cover.

Pre-order day 2 comes by and the rush to buy the new covers is a lot more muted but still they sell out before the end of the day. Some people get upset because Aspen had emailed them saying the rare cover would be available again but weren't notified when Aspen had gone back on upping the print run for the rarest cover.

And that's about it

@dielinfinite good recap.

By the way, I'm kinda sour about the fact they are printing 5,000 of the All Star Batman but charging the same price as the 3,000 run Batman 1.

They went from 5,000 with ASB down to 4,000, guess my words on facebook didn't fall on def ears. They are still failing to understand that 3,000 is a sweet spot. I'll still get it because Batman is the heart and soul of my collection. I actually like the color version.
