I can't bid on this. Too many flags. The condition of it is terrible. The covers look detached. Why would it say #1/3000 if it's a proof? There was only 6 proofs ever made. This one looks like it was dragged out in the rain and mud (or rust). Sad.

This one is mine. I met Kevin when he came to Seattle in 2012 or 2013.

you have the Regular Variant white cover with black logo, 3000 print run

There are three variants of this comic book: the regular edition with a white cover;
the silver edition with a grey cover silver logo, autographed on the back;
and the gold edition with an orange cover. The gold variant is the rarest of the three, which sold out almost immediately with an incredibly low print run of only 10 issues, each having an original sketch and autograph on the back:
i believe the first 2 or 3 where proofs.

i highlight what the book say on the print run

this link will show you the 3 of them

No, this one book for sale has 3 covers on it. Prototype. It is a proof of what would be printed/published. There were 6 made in existence. I completely understand the print runs and published allocations of this book. You can actually see the gold cover underneath in the photo provided.

you are correct there are 3 covers on it, just clicked on the read more, and it say,This is a vintage prototype (Proof 1 / 3000) featuring All 3 covers autographed , so are these the protyps??

A letterer that worked for Kevin Eastman offered me a white cover one of these that had condition issues. I don't remember the price. I'm thinking she wanted $100. I'm not really a Ninja Turtles fan, so I opted to pass. I don't really know much about any of them.

I remember being a color comic snob when TMNT#1 came out. I remember seeing a stack of about 50 or more on the comic shelf when it was released and I thumbed through it. Years later (4yrs?) after I quit collecting comics, a friend of mine recorded and mixed some songs for a guy we both knew. He showed me a cassette that they were selling of the guy's band. I bought a copy.

By that time, I didn't know the characters even had a fan base. I thought the world had forgotten about them. I asked what the picture was because it reminded me of the comic I'd seen when it first came out. He said "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and I was in shock. I thought I was the only person who remembered them. Again though, I had quit collecting at the time. The music was funny to me, so I think I still have this despite throwing away most of my cassettes.

That is a prototype, one of 6. Which is why I asked the question about #1/3000 I found it strange. But the seller is selling a few other tmnt proofs so I don't doubt the validity of it. However the condition makes you really question scarcity over condition. Being scarce (less than 10) this truly is a remarkable find. I just hate the condition of it and I'm not even sure it can be cleaned very well without harsh invasive methods.

If it's what the seller claims it is, you have to just ignore the condition and buy it based upon it's historical significance.

i was thinking the same thing, but what are the odds of this ever popping back up, are very little. there are RARE and yes the condition is not the best, if i have the money i would be on it right now. i've looking for one in 25 years and now 1 pops up. it will be another 20 years before 1 pops back up and am sure by then price will be higher.

This book is likely a hand-bound proof made by the company that printed the book. Basically it would be the interior with the three different covers on it that they bound together and was kept as a sample of the product printed. There were probably only one or two of these books made at the most, and I doubt this would be counted in the production numbers of the gold copy. Meaning there are probably 10 gold copies...and this book is an additional copy that contains a gold cover.

Very interesting book. The condition could be better, but you may be looking at the only copy like it.

But that's my educated opinion based on 25 years of experience in the printing industry and zero inside information on this particular book, so take it for what it's worth.

I think I'm going to try and bid on it. See what I can do to preserve it. I feel like it's my duty. I have a cap in mind so I won’t bid over that due to condition.

2 hours to go on it, almost tempted to bid but I doubt my "ceiling" would win. So, if the covers are detached could you toss out the white and silver and this count or considered a gold? Looks like the brunt of the pee damage is on the outer covers.

The gold copies had an original sketch by Peter Laird on the back of each one. this one does not, So people might think it’s a fake if you remove the other two covers

edit: no photo of the back gold cover

I see, then I'd be stuck with the pee...😎

Joking aside it's still very tempting. Since Cap might bid I'll probably refrain, I like the turtles but I know Myke is the biggest fan...

and technically, we still don't know that there isn't a sketch or not on the back of the gold cover. I messaged the seller this morning but they have not responded. It's definitely worth a risk, because it's speculated that the proofs are part of the 10 copies of gold editions!

Agreed. We see a lot of miracle press N cleans. But this one looks like a bleaching candidate. Worth $1K anyway?

Not trying to discuss methods or whatever, Simple answer: I would not know, I do not use solvents or chemicals. It's not worth the risk to damage the book further doing a wet cleaning. But to send it to CCS is tempting.

Wow. I'm headed to dinner right now but find this an interesting nugget. Add to the fact that I'm a gambler. The yellow cover doesn't look as bad as the other two, but then again we know the color of pee!! Also the yellow cover looks like it might be the only one attached.

Completely joking about the bleaching. I'd be the last to go to for any restoration. I'd go pro all the way, probably contact some of the options we have here.
