Looks like they went the money route:

They can push the limits of PG-13 and be very similar to R rating. I plan to go watch the movie with an open mind.

I’m more worried about the fact it’s a Sony project outside the MCU than the rating.

I’ll definitely see it, most of us will. A ‘Venom’ movie without Spider-Man is just a tough sell.

Sorry, but Venom is not a PG-13 character.

Does this mean ASM 300 will sour?

It will drop some a few months after the movie releases in theaters. This always happens with movie spec books. How much will it dip? We’ll have to wait and see.

I don't see this as a positive. Venom is an R rated character. So we get a pg-13 Spider-man less Venom movie. Sell those 300s now.

Nice try. THink I’ll hold onto mine for a while longer...a LONG....while....longer...

Think of movie ratings like third party comic grading....it’s all subjective.

Should be the first in a trilogy. Tom Hardy has signed on for three movies. Venom is supposed to spark a whole new cinematic Universe.

Maybe sometime before 2020 or whenever the next venom movie comes out my books will be back. Hope to sell a few for only 3rd or 4th time ever and can put the $$ towards an ASM#300?? although to tell the truth I'd rather have a 8 or higher Strange Adventures #205

There is no way to make a movie with Venom or Carnage without having and R rating, AND be true to the characters. That is what made them popular, they will do what the PG Spider-Man won't.

I’m a fan of Venom, so I’ll hold onto my ASM252,299,300,344,360,361.

The fact that Sony is the one making the movie concerns me more so than a rating.

ASM 300 is a common book. No logical sense why the 98s are selling as high as they are.

I feel like it's the same group of people just buying multiple copies.

From what I'm seeing and how the studio is resolving, it would appear in my eyes that they have no intention of ever having Venom encounter Spider-man. Ever. Save this thread and see if I am right.

I do however, believe in my eyes from what I know of hollywood, I believe by the third film it will be Venom groomed into ANTI-VENOM.

I think Sony hopes to impress Marvel by drawing in some big bucks on their own. I think Sony HOPES to crossover, but is structuring these movies so that they don’t have to.

I’m nervous about it all. I mean, I can’t help but remember ‘Spider-Man 3’. 🙁

spider-man 3 was not Sam Raimi's fault. At all. He intended a 4th film but abandoned the project from Sony.

I also think they should have switched the actors for eddie brock and sandman.

agree .. good chance of anti-venom IMO - pending sony getting rights to the character?

sony also has rights to Green goblin/norman osborne and carnage... soooooo... ;P ?

Well, he wasn’t a Venom fan. That being the case, he didn’t give him the careful consideration he would have.

Still, the trouble was largely Sony’s meddling. Which is why we can only Hope they learned from their mistakes.
