Comics won't fit in that box unless you have a shrinking machine

NGC is the coin grading branch of the same company CGC is a part of. So the case you're looking at is for holding graded coins, not comics

My one storage chest. Most of my other graded books are on the wall in frames or in my display cases.

I usually get slab size boxes from the LCS. It's usually either BCW or CGC boxes that are stocked.

White corrugated plastic boxes from BAGS Unlimited.
Each box holds about 20 regular graded books.

Check price...it might be different from the time I bought them.

@Frontier2Xterra That's a pretty awesome storage system. I imagine that it is custom. I think that is a great way to display your new acquisitions.

I have these. They are not too bad, but I have on occasion nearly cut myself on the sharp edges.

Any suggestions for oversized slabs? I have literally one (Marvel Graphic Novel 4) and it doesn't fit into a 'normal' slab box. Since I only have the one, currently I bite the bullet and have it in the box diagonally with the lid on a little loose.

I have been considering something like this, as I only have/want to keep a limited number of graded books. I would think I could avoid any moisture issues by keeping silica packs in the safe. Any input from other collectors on this option would be appreciated. Internal Dimensions are 6.9 in. H x 16.8 in. W x 11.6 in. D.

Do a search on comic books and safes. There have been issues with staple corrosion, among other things, due to the materials used to fireproof some of them.

Good to know, looks like something I will avoid. Thanks for the heads-up.

The key phrase here is some of them. Not all fire resistant safes are bad for comics. I'm not going to call the corrosion allegations a myth, because there have been at least one documented case of serious damage to staples photographed connected by an owner to a safe he was using. It is basically one incident recorded years ago with no further testing I'm aware of by others to corroborate the story.

That said, it cannot be ignored given the theoretical risks involve. While I'd recommend any collector desiring the peace of mind such protection provides do further research to understand the full extent of fire resistant safe protection I'll share my experience to help you along.

The first thing to consider, is level of rire protection. Comic collectors should look for DATA GRADE (UL125) safes as they are designed to protect fragile documents (paper) and media (plastic, such as data storage discs). The 125 designation is the maximum temperature that may occur inside the safe for a rated length of time in the event of a fire (tested by Underwriter's Laboratory).

In my experience the best of these safes are the larger data grade safes produced by PHOENIX. I've never had staple rot issues with any of my GA books from extended storage, and I check periodically. I do monitor interior coditions with a thermometer and humidity gauge, and use desicants to keep the humidity level below 50%. The interior safe temperature is usually around 60 to 65 degrees, less than room temperature. My books have never suffered any ill effects from this storage in over many years of use.

Hope this info. is useful to anyone sitting on the fence about fire resistant safes and comics.

All of my Area LCS's are out of the Slab-sized boxes, they all say they can't get them from Diamond, they are back-ordered. But $20 for a single box sucks, I get that it is the shipping costs but damn.

I have a large plastic container that I put them in. i don't think you need to be too creative in how you store them.

BCW on line has the graded size comic book boxes for $7.65 each. Or if you buy 5 they are closer to $5. Each. I had bought 10 before and then I built sheetmetal outer boxes with tight sheetmetal lids to go down over the top. I also put handles on them. I built them to sell and to use for trading for key books. I hope to find the time to build some more. They were pretty fun to make. I also used an aluminum silicone on the seams from the inside for extra protection. I had also built one for a long box that I keep my nicer books in. But the long box case is too heavy. I used to fabricate ductwork professionally so I have all the correct tools to make them look sweet.

I can do a picture of the long box. I might have pictures of the graded boxes but not sure. I will try to post it when I get home tonight.
