How much you guys think a spine roll wouldn downgrade an avengers annual 7?

More of a mis-cut, not a spine roll. It is very common in square bound books and will have minimal impact.

Would really need high resolution pictures of both the front and back covers (not in the bag). That would enable us to give a more educated guess.

5.0-6.0

If you can remove the sticker with no residue, maybe higher.

Sticker should result in a qualified grade (does CBCS have one???)

I'd say an 8.0 without the sticker. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to talk about any process that could result in harming a comic if not done correctly (which would include how to remove stickers). You'd have to Google or You Tube it.

Regarding qualified grades, see CGC's site. CBCS doesn't offer a qualified grade.

But what is a qualified grade?
What does that mean?

A Qualified grade (Green Label) gives you the grade a comic would get IF NOT for a certain defect. Usually the defect is interior and unseen, such as a missing coupon or signature. I'm not sure why visible defects (stickers) get a Qualified grade, but it is what it is. I can, however, understand it for a cover signature that isn't legible.

If I recall the procedure correctly, you have the option of choosing whether they apply a Qualified grade or Universal. If Universal is chosen, the grade DOES reflect the defect, and would likely be lower depending on the nature of the defect. An interior signature shouldn't get as big a hit as a missing coupon, for instance.

So Qualified gets a higher numerical grade, but it also comes with a green label, and THAT can have a negative impact on sales (if that's a concern). If it's for the personal collection, then it's up to owner's preference. I have, or had, only one green label slab (McFarlane sig on cover), but I cracked it out to "liberate" the suspected interior sig by Peter David (oddly NOT mentioned on the label). The seller mentioned it might be there.

I have no real experience with slab grades for books with stickers, so I can't help you there, but I think this book look at least 8.0, and probably no higher than 9.0 (maybe with a press). Hard to say sometimes even when using the best of hi res scans, much less photographs.

Again, how the sticker affects the grade... *shrug*

What defects are you seeing that keep this in the 8.0 range?

This looks like a very nice book. I have had books with stickers like that (carefully) removed and still get a 9.4 grade. Depends on the sticker though. Some remove easily, some not. Some may leave a residue or a stain that would be detrimental to the grade. If there is a visible stain to the paper on the opposite side of the sticker, then the damage has been done. A book with a (glue) stain like that would probably top out at 8.0-8.5 even if the sticker was able to be removed.

@CFP_Comics - The biggest defect I see from the photos besides the sticker are what looks to be about a 1/4 inch or more split in the bottom spine. There also appear to be a few very minor bends visible. With that split (and the sticker removed), I would say 8.0/8.5 if I owned that book.

Hello
Thank you very much for The grades.
And yes there is a very tiny split on the bottom of The spine, but no creases..so at least an 8.00 then.
Do you guys considers it is a good candidate for grading?
Im impressed for a book with this age its in very good shape...

@Flip1987 - I have two copies of that same book in about that same grade (IMO). They are currently bagged and boarded (Mylites2 with Fullbacks) and sitting (standing?) in a short box with about 100 other books that may be eventually sent in for slabbing. However, since graded 9.0 issues are currently selling for less than $100 (even with the movie hype), it will probably be a while before I seriously consider sending them in for slabbing/grading.

If you want to see it in a slab (i.e. For display or added protection) but still want to read or hold it on occasion, look into comicskins.com. I have a few that fit that description. Especially if you're considering sending it in from outside the is....going to cost you a lot just to get it slabbed. Comic skins can be ordered through eba, Amazon, or directly through their website and you're not paying crazy amounts to send it to the USA and back. Just one at shipping!

Yes, though I'd say 1/4 inch or less. Splitting hairs.

+ soft-ish corners. My guess also stems from a lack of a clearer image, so I figure "at least".
It certainly looks clean.
