The bag is not the main issue the condition it is kept in is the question. If the bag was the issue every book ever bagged would go bad. What come in question are the elements the book is access to prior to the bagging process and in most cases you will never truly know because you have not been with the book all it’s life span. So all you can do is try to lower the negative factors as much as possible ie... direct light, smoke , temp and so on....

Polybags aren’t acid free so over time they eat away at the comics

The most immediate issue with books in polybags is that the back side of the bag has a seam. Over time this bag seam will indent the comic book and reduce the grade. The seam can be pressed out in most cases, but it can easily be avoided by removing your comics from the bags when you get them.

He’s right. I just opened my x force 1’s to see if they worth grading. Indents on all of them. Had I known when I bought them new i would’ve taken them out right away. I will always remove them from now on.

Barring the seems and in most cases those come the book becoming weight baring or being laid on it’s side, the acid in the bag has to have a catalyst to start corrosive process, in most case heat so a up right stand poly bag in a cool environment will do just as well as an acid free book. The way I know is all my poly bags that where laying down had the same problems vs the none with the loosely bagged stand ones

But overall the good thing is over time the issue will be consider condition sensitive because of the acid so protect what u can

Hmmm... I did not know some people keep their comics lying flat these days. I thought we all put them in stand up boxes.

Mine were all stood up since new. Still got it. Maybe if I’d put the front towards the board but to late now.
