Speculation: X-men and FF Comics...6994

I don't believe this....and I know you don't care that I don't believe this. GAC private msg quote post Address this user
Now that Disney has successfully purchased Fox and the film rights to the X-men and FF are back at Marvel. Will this have an influence on X-men and FF comics values? Assuming we will get comic accurate films of these two properties under the Marvel banner; should this increase key books in those titles?

thanks...I haven't been tracking values of these title's key issues so I wasnt aware there's already been an impact. So, movie announcements and releases will continue to impact these books as well.

In all seriousness, they've been striking me as a slower increase in the prices of keys, but they are going up from what I've seen. I can only go by what I've seen in the shops and online as I don't use GPA or any other tool to see values. FF 48 and Hulk 181 were higher than they were a couple of months ago. If someone can shed more light on the key book values, that would be great.

I'm pretty sure Marvel owns the Sub-mariner rights. It was held by Universal at some point but I read an interview with Kevin Feige where he said he believes Marvel now owns/can use Subby.

It could be similar to Marvel's ownership of the Hulk. Marvel can not make a standalone Hulk movie because Universal has those rights but obviously the Hulk can appear as a supporting character in Marvel's movies. I think Sub-mariner is similar. He can be used in an FF film but not a standalone film.

This is where it gets tricky....Universal at one point had the character and distribution rights to the Hulk Properties and Namor. After the first Hulk movie tanked, they let the movie character rights lapse back to Marvel, but not the Distribution rights...

This is why the Norton Hulk was Produced by Marvel, but distributed by Universal...Also why Thor: Ragnarok was essentially a Hulk film wrapped up in Thor banner (hehe)...because Marvel cannot distribute a solo Hulk film.

So Marvel owns the rights to Namor (along with Hulk and She-Hulk characters) and can use him them in an ensemble film, but any Solo film currently has to be distributed by Universal.

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user

A lot of serious collectors feel FF 1 is a somewhat undervalued. Fantastic Four is not near as popular as Spider-Man and so far the FF films have been uninspiring. BUT Fantastic Four 1 is THE BOOK that started the Marvel Age. The logic and argument goes that the value of FF 1 should be a lot closer to AF 15. If one wants to roll the dice a bit and play a longer term investment strategy, buy the highest graded copy of FF 1 you can find (and afford).

The cost of entry for FF 1 isn't cheap. I don't have a much in the recommendation for relatively inexpensive FF issues. If Marvel can make a successful Fantastic Four franchise then it seems reasonable that the movies - just like the comics - would at some point have a Thing/Hulk throw down. So FF 12 and 25? Maybe even 112? But otherwise we don't know what other characters that first appeared in the FF that Disney might use in comics. That haven't - like Warlock, Black Panther and the Inhumans - already popped.

The big ones for me are Doctor Doom and Galactus being handed back to Disney in the Fox Deal as they were both part of the Fantastic Four package...my fingers are still crossed for a Secret Wars Movie.

A Secret Wars film would be I have to say pretty cool. But can you imagine the cost to make such? Marvel/Disney would literally be making a movie where they have to employ and pay every single actor of every single character.

We'd end up with a movie that spent nothing on special effects because of the payroll. Or a movie with such a huge budget that turning a profit was hard.
