Recommendation for sketch cover artist?6969

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
I'm starting to think about getting my first blank cover commission and hope you all have some artist recommendations. I have a full body portrait in mind that doesn't have to be charcoal but has that kind of look, and would be for a Marvel property (if that matters). Any suggestions?

If you catch him at a show, Jae Lee could be a good choice. He does his commissions in ink and they look awesome. He does have a very distinct style though, so hopefully it fits in with what you're looking for

Best charcoal art I've seen is a cat named Victor Ali.

I go back and forth on Jae. He does make some awesome art and it is very distinctive, but I'm not sure it's what I'm looking for. I'll have to think about it. Any idea what his rate is like?

Jae Lee is like $250 for a B&W bust, I think.

Chadwick Haverland is really good at photorealistic stuff. He did this for me a few years ago:

That's definitely in the vein of what I had in mind.

@xkonk If you are interested in a Chadwick Haverland commission, PM me or check out Collectors Choice Comics (CCC) on Facebook. We do sketch opps with him quite often and all are available for CBCS ASP. Here are a couple he just did for some of our clients to be signed by Evangeline Lilly in Boston:

I haven't done a commission before, so I guess I don't have one in mind. I know that's bad. I guess I would say around $100 but I could go a little higher if I was convinced I was going to fall in love with it.

@xkonk - find an artist you like and go for it. Expect to pay at least $200-$250 for a bust from anyone with a name. For $100 your pickings will be local or just a small, quickie head sketch with a Sharpie. Good luck.

@xkonk Find an artist, or artists, whose style you like, and find their website/facebook/twitter. Shoot them an e-mail/message or fill out the contact form on the website, and see if you can work something out. Everyone I have spoken to, with one exception, has been really cool, easy to work with, and done incredible work. It takes time, so you'll have to be patient; many artists have contract work that has to be done on a deadline prior to putting in hours on commissioned work. Its only reasonable they focus on what's paying the mortgage/rent before moving on to the private stuff that generates extra money.

I had some ASM 300 cover swipes done by Brent Schoonover; I think he's an easy guy to work with, and does fantastic work.

Had another more basic ASM 300 cover swipe done by Rosel Rodriguez (Hellraze Art).

Just got a chibi-style ASM 300 sketch & a trio of Venom: Lethal Protector remarks from Kyle Willis; another incredible talent who (hopefully) has gotten the attention of Marvel with these remarks.

I have a bunch more that are in-progress from Nikki Williams, Shannon Stamey, & Atom Todd; all extremely talented artists. I have a request in w/ Mostafa Moussa, but his commission list fills up fast, so I don't know if I'll make it.

If you're looking for larger pieces, like wall hangers, those usually take longer, and cost more. I had an incredible watercolor done by Karl Slominski; a swipe of one of Mark Bagley's Marvel Masterwork Fleer cards from the 90's. It took longer to finish, but its the centerpiece of my OA collection so far.

Good luck! Looking forward to seeing what you have done!

I did this with sharpie marker for my bro a few months ago. Only official commission I’ve done and it was for family so maybe it doesn’t count.
It’s a 18x12 or something like that.

For a full figure sketch most artists will be well north of $200.

I have gotten some great sketches from current and former students of the Joe Kubert school who charge less than the bigger artists because they are just starting out. Keep in mind that the rates go up as they get more experience and demand.

Here are some artists (and their sketches) that might be closer to your budget:

Josh James

Max Fuchs

Chris Pugilise

Idan Knafo Kurbis

Nick Justus

Fernando Ruiz
Scott Hanna
Len Danovich
Erik Klaus
Bella Rachlin

You should be able to find most of these artists on Facebook.
