A very vivid cover by Hubert Rogers on the July 1941 issue of Street & Smith's Astounding Science Fiction. This cover presents Robert Heinlein's METHUSELAH's CHILDREN...

True, Street & Smith repurposed some of George Rozen's Shadow pulp cover paintings for the early issues of the 1940 comic. Painted covers, especially by well established pulp artists, add another level of newsstand appeal to those books in my estimation.

VF/NM copy of Famous Fantastic Mysteries pulp, October 1940 with an eerie Virgil Finley cover and interior art. This is one eye-popping pulp...

I'm on the road currently, so I won't have books from my collection to post here for awhile, but if you have pulps, digests or pulp art to share and feel the urge, go for it! I'll certainly respond positively and I'm pretty sure others will as well.

I'm back from Chicago Wizard and mildly surprised to see the pulp page has gone quiet. Alas, only the faint sound of crickets can be heard in the background. There's bound to be a few more pulp fans/collectors on this board. Maybe folks following this thread are taking a long siesta. Well, I'll shoot a few more images and upload'em later today for those Rip Van Winkles who need a little nudge to wake up.

Here's a rousing Amazing Stories cover:

Hey, muchas gracious, Savage Spawn! Appreciate the feedback!

Alas, my early Galaxy's aren't getting any "likes" so my inclination is to post something else. It kinda surprised me that no one noticed Ray Bradbury's first version of Fahrenheit 451 published in Galaxy #5 as The Fireman.

About the only way I have of gauging whether folks like what I'm putting on display is through clicks of approval. That said, I may go ahead and post another Galaxy or two since you commented on the overall appeal of this thread. Hopefully, Galaxy hasn't worn out it's welcome. Thanks again!

For those interested in seeing the images, I also have some of the rarer Astounding SF from the mid-40's, including oversized bedsheets, the last pulp format editions and the early digests, which started as a marketing experiment.

This cover represents the prevailing environmental fear of the time. Scientists believed we were heading into another ice age. This was actually the dominant scientific thought right up to the early 80's. I remember after we had several bad winters in the mid 70's, reading articles that were saying we were in the beginning throes of this coming ice age. Soon the gears switched and for the last three decades it's been all about global warming (renamed "Climate Change" as of late).
