Plastic Comic Book Boxes, are they worth it?6533

Collector Ladic private msg quote post Address this user
So BCW sells these new boxes:

https://www.bcwsupplies.com/short-comic-book-bin

however they are a tad expensive, in order to save on shipping you have to buy the 5 pack option so it comes out to a bit over $80 with free shipping.

My question is, are these worth it? will it protect them ALOT better than your regular cardboard boxes?

Yes, worth it. Bugs love cardboard

If only they had a version for slabs.

BCW is in the next town over from me and yet when I order supplies from them, I have the items shipped when I could drive over and pick it up and save myself 10 bucks. I think it's 'cause there's a casino on the way and I needs to keep mah munny in mah wallet.

Oh really? I didn't see it on their product page. Where did you buy them? Amazon? Thanks!

I have seen the normal BCW ones only. I hear that it is not wide enough to accommodate the Golden/Silver size Mylars though.

It fits silver Mylar for sure and normal golden age bags and boards. I used them first r all my wall books at conventions. I have a box for my Marvel titles, DC titles and variants and independents. I love them

I see the inside dimension width is 7- 5/8 wide. That is not bad. 5 for $84. Sounds reasonable.

I cut my hands on them regularly. That is the biggest drawback for me.

Oh I though BCW made some. These are alright, but don't look quite as sturdy as the BCW ones.

Yeah I dont think ppl are talking apples to apples here either

The new BCW are super expensive but supposedly awesome. The dividers are a great idea as well, saves from stuffing the back of un-filled boxes

This is overkill. Your comics are already in slabs for protection lol πŸ˜†

When it comes to 10's of thousands of dollars, I vote overkill (especially at $17 per box in bulk).

Here’s the official β€œtrailer” lol. It even has dramatic music!

Gotta say, pretty cool though. Overkill, probably 😁

Actually, unless the material used is 100% archival, off-gassing from the box will certainly downgrade paper health, over time.

If they are not archival, which I doubt they are at $17 a piece in bulk, just use traditional cardboard boxes.

Cardboard divider pads spaced evenly in the box to lessen the stress on the books (or slabs).

I only have a single short box of books in my PC, this is how I store them.

I store the rest of my books in the same way...besides the ridiculous amount of books that I have in small stacks on every damn inch of flat surface that I have available (hoarder style) but they are mostly slated for pressing/grading and storing them in boxes, before tgey have been pressed, will stress the spines.πŸ˜–πŸ˜–

Cardboard boxes will still off gas, they aren't archival but as long as they are switched put every few years, off gassing via cardboard won't be an issue.

There is a huge thread about storing slabs/area, in the CGCForum...you should take a look if you haven't read it yet.

I picked up 5 of these boxes not too long ago. I love them and plan on getting more, especially ones for slabs.
