Do you use any sort of software to catalog your comics?6511

@dielinfinite
I emailed them to see it could be added as an option in a future update. I'll let you know what they say. If anyone is interested, here is how they say to upload personal photos in their words...

I really want my own cover synced.
Now it could be that the cover you wish to sync is really specific to you, maybe it has an autograph, maybe you have a different reason. If you think fixing or submitting a cover to Core for Comics is not the way to go for this specific comic we’re talking about,l then you can upload the cover to CLZ Cloud, and it will only be used, in your syncs. Here’s how:

Upload your own cover, just for yourself.

In the Comic Collector for Windows or Mac, here’s how you do that:

Right click the comic in your local Comic Collector database.
Choose “Upload Cover to CLZ Cloud”.
This will “force” the upload of your image to the CLZ Cloud.
You have to do this for each comic you want a cover uploaded for.

In the mobile app you can force upload your cover by editing the comic and then tap the square with the arrow pointing upwards. Then tap “Upload Cover”.

I use Comicbookrealm.

Will eventually get it all on GoCollect as well...when I'm bored next winter.

Most do not. One popular free option is ComicsPriceGuide.com which allows you to store your collection and provides value information and reports on changes over time. Of course confidence in those values may vary.

The major caveat with applications that provide automatic value information is that they tend to have less flexibility in order for the pricing information to flow in automatically. Depending on your collection, this may not be too much of an issue as you're less likely to find an issue or variation missing from the app entirely if you're sticking just to Gold and Silver age books. If you have modern books which may have various obscure variants or if you collect signed or sketched comics where the value of the book is affected by who signed/sketched it, then the value information you're getting may not necessarily apply to your specific book if it is available at all.

Comic Book Realm provides prices, but they are not accurate. The nice thing about CBR though, is that you can do reports. You can find out which comics have increased or decreased in value, even if the price isn't accurate. You can see which comics have been hot in recent past. You can run a list of issues missing in a run. You can also run a report that will list your comics by value, again, not accurate but close enough to be helpful. There are more reports, but those are the ones I use.

GoCollect provides various value reports, but bear in mind it is for slabbed books only. You can enter registry #s, cover scans, purchase price, etc.

I have all my slabs cataloged there, and their values are up-to-date.

As stated, Comicbookrealm does provide values as well, but those values are not very accurate. It's ball-park estimate stuff.

Comicbookrealm is super-easy to add your books in large chunks, tho.

Sure, good points - not an easy task! The Blank Sketch covers alone imply any number of unique and/or personalized variants, which would be extremely difficult to assign values for.

On top of what @dielinfinite said, I manually update my values in CLZ periodically, and also keep my collection in parallel on comicbookrealm.com... there's an "on the move" report there that shows any value changes in the past 30 days... and if you have your collection there, by default it only shows changes to issues in your collection. I review that report every week or two, and update my CLZ values accordingly.

If CLZ could form a partnership or one of the value sites set up an API, it would be great to establish links and lookups to have that happen automatically. That would definitely make it a full killer app, but would require some businesses to figure out the model and actually put it in place.

CLZ's reply:
Thanks for contacting Collectorz.com support.

This is not on our list, no.
You see, the covers inside Core are pretty awesome, that is why we use them.
And our Core is about sharing data, covers being one of them.
With kind regardZ,

@vacaboca What’s funny is that their video game collector app DOES track values, though the skus there are far easier to keep track of and there far fewer factors in determining the value simce there isn’t really a market for signatures or art

Yup... I don't know what source they use for the gaming prices, but certainly there are far fewer SKUs involved... but in the comic case, they could link the DB entry to comic vine to their pricing source, and then allow re-linking or modification like they already do... not perfect, but workable... *if* you start with a source of pricing, with an API, with good DB management at the pricing source, comic vine, and then on the CLZ user/collector side.

If I were ready to retire, I'd be able to figure it out I think

There's no denying that their core photos are awesome but, the entire concept of the app is to catalog individual collections. Using our personal photos of graded, signed and art mark-ups is part of that individuality and personalization. I love the fact that they have a core photo collection. I just thought our personal photos should take presidents when syncing.

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user

Maybe I missed something earlier in this thread, but my CLZ database and my synced iOS apps are full of my own images where it matters (sketch covers, signatures, slabs)... I just "Upload Cover to CLZ Cloud" and it overrides the default one from the database.

@vacaboca Yeah, I think he was requesting that CLZ sync custom photos as part of their Sync to CLZ Cloud function instead of making it a separate function

Ah, yeah, that's what I missed... I agree, I'd love for it to default the images, but then actually sync whatever I use by default. So, what he said you said. Great idea!

Working on it @shrewbeer, getting close. In fact I'm hoping you'll be one of our alpha testers - that would help tremendously. Gonna make a call in the newsletter this weekend, hope to hear back from you
