Harley #30 1:25 variant is ridicuously over priced on ebay. Not even that nice of a cover.

This is why I don't think most of the variants will hold a lot of value over time. There are just too many of them. Most of the covers won't be worth much with a few worth a lot.

You're absolutely correct, most of them won't hold value. Retailers are trying to force demand by manufacturing "limited quantities" and a perception of limited supply. True keys and books that have retained value have done that organically and through people finding what they want not being told that this is the next "Collector's Item!"

Some of these will hold their value, some will even increase (I think the MLT will for example) but most will fall over time.

This happens a lot with people who collect modern keys and their attention is quickly diverted to the next hot item and the focus (thereby the demand) falls away for these.

Case in point: Look at what happened with all the Star Wars # 1 variants....

This is why I was very selective on artist, and appeal of the cover. I only bought 5 different ones, but feel I went with the best. Anyone who just bought all of them, ehhh.

@Mio Or you could collect both? Stories are far better in moderns. And I am primarily a pre-code collector.

The modern age of hot key books these days is played like the stock market. Plain and simple. It's the "poor man's" way of investing in real time.

@dielinfinite I paid 45 for the Philip tan set, so it's not that much different for me. I like the bazinga one as well, but not enough to buy it... yet. I still haven't bought the bednes variant. I think they'll lower their prices eventually.

As for the investment side of things, I figure if they don't go up in value, I can probably break even on the ones I bought extras of. The grading is going to cost a lot though.

The best advise (from the new guy here) is: Buy the book/cover because you like it. Don't buy it expecting to make money off of it.

Are you being facetious or serious? Assuming you're serious, I will say I am reading the "regular cover" and keep these unread and slabbed.

Completely serious. I don't collect variants, and with this having so many covers I don't know if some choose the lowest graded copy to read or the one they feel won't gain value. If anything was facetious, it was the "Assuming...", because I have to imagine there are people (not necessarily here) who never read them and send them straight to slab.

lol ok I just wanted to make sure :-) I usually read the regular covers or Cover A books and try to keep the others as close to 9.8 as possible

@MR_SigS I do most of my reading these days through digital copies. I rarely open a physical book, this goes for actual book books too not just comics, and I also collect 📚 hardcover books.
