I have a G.I. Combat 68 CGC 3.5, generation 1 blue label you can have for $385 + shipping. Cream to OW Pages...it was also graded in the early 2000's, during a very tight period. I wouldn't be surprised if it came back at 4.0 with OW Pages via a straight crack and sub. Got it on the (relative) cheap a few months back in a poorly worded auction listing. It is clearly unpressed, I'd put it at a solid 5.0 with a CPR. Sgt. Rock prototype, was considered the 1st true appearance of Sgt. Rock until a few years back. Personally, I think non superhero silver keys , like this book, have the most room for growth. https://www.cgccomics.com/grading/verify-cgc-comic.aspx?cgc-comic-cert=0059690003&grader-notes=yes |

Do you have a favorite genre or character? That would definitely narrow the scope of what you could be looking for. I collect what I like and as someone that thinks the sweet spot for silver/bronze age books is the 3.0 - 5.0 range, here are some key comic ideas that can be had for under $400 (per Go Collect) - Green Lantern #76 (6.0 and lower) - Giant Size X-Men #1 (3.0 and lower) - Iron Man #1 (5.0 and lower) - Silver Surfer #1 (5.0 and lower) - Hawkman #4 (5.0 and lower) - Detective Comics #359 (3.5 and lower) - ToS #52 (5.0 or lower) - Iron Man #55 (3.0 and lower) - ASM #300 (9.0 or lower) - NM #98 (9.6 or lower) - Flash #139 (4.5 or lower) - Star Wars #1 (9.6 or lower) - Green Lantern #87 (8.5 and lower) I'm also on team one big comic vs. a bunch of smaller books, but definitely buy what you like with value upside. |

Which book/s depends on what you want to own. Tastes vary. My personal picks would be: Omega Men #3 in 9.8 First Lobo Strange Adventures #180 First Animal Man (in about 7.0 if you can) Action Comics #253 Second appearance of Supergirl (in a 7.0 if you can) Teen Titans 12 in 9.8 (variant cover if possible) (first appearance of Batman Who Laughs, maybe) New Mutants 98 (in 9.6 at least) First appearance of Deadpool Any golden age Batman or Detective Comic with the Joker on the cover. |

I would put all of those books you posted into a third to 4th tier category of EC's. Books like Shock Suspense 6,12...decapatation, VOH, TFTC and some Crime Suspebstories,Mad 1, Frazetta weird Sci Fi covers etc.... in 1st tier EC's. Second tier would be a mix of sci-fi and their magazine crime/suspense illustrated mag books...along with Psychoanalysis 1-4. Everything else like the bible picture stories, Valor and so on would get 3rd-4th tier, based on desirability/signifigance and grade. |

And I didn’t realize a 9.6 NM 98 could be had for $400. I sold my 8.0 for $200 about a year ago & wanted a higher grade. I’ll have to add that to my list. |

When I accumulated about $400, I grabbed an ASM 300 in the highest grade I could get...I also waited around for one of those 15-20% off eBay coupons and only cbcs would do (as I could get the graders notes and trust their grading slightly more than cgc). It was the book I had to have, so maybe it's not the book for you. It might not be the best time either. But really it comes down to are you looking for somethings to have and to hold till death do you part? Or is this an investment? If it's to keep, what is your favorite character or top 3? I like condition freaks Omega 3 in 9.8....very underrated and it's only a matter of time before that one takes off. 1st poison ivy is also good. I'd stay away from moderns (post 1992) as investments. What interests you? |

I do it different. I keep the max number of books in my EBay saved searches that I want to own and wait for a deal on any of them I can’t pass up. I normally don’t buy graded as getting grades is half the fun, but sometimes graded is a better deal than raw. As I buy a key I put a different one on, and never bother to upgrade, generally. This way I generally don’t overpay and usually pay 20-50 % under going rate. |

There have been a few sales at over $1000 recently. ...A few at $1000-$1100...and about 3 at $1500.(by recently I'm looking at GPA for 2018) The $1500 sales are probably newsstands. The $1000 and change sales would be either a solid auction showing or BIN sales. The prices on this book are all over the place and if you wait long enough, you can get lucky with an auction format. You just have to wait until there are multiple 9.8 slabs ending on the same day; basically trying to take advantage of a seller's mistake.Sometimes this works. Here's GPA for NM 98 in 9.8 ; specifically from May 17-19th. Or as much as I could copy/paste on my cell...The averages got lumped in at the top. Look at the 3 bolded sales; all auctions that ended within a 24 hour span. The 1st seller got banged over hard at $564; assumably because bidders were waiting on the 2 others to end, on the same 24 hour period. They sold for more, progressively by ending time. Big difference between $858,979 and $564. GPA has the high for 2018 in blue 9.8 at $1499, with the 2018 low sale at a whoppingly miserable $320. The thing I like about gocollect is that they give you the original listing images and state whether it was an auction or a BIN sale. Gotta wonder just how unlucky a seller could be, and/or poorly formatted a listing could be, in order for a listing of a NM 98 CGC 9.8 to land a $320 sale. That is over a $500 loss at 90 day average. ...You'd need a time machine to whisk you back about a decade at least, to get a slabbed 9.8 NM 98 at $320. Hell, he can probably get 2 9.8's, if he waits for a few auctions. The initial movie pitch hype has largely subsided since a few months back. That is probably the cheapest key you can get slabbed at 9.8 on the market under $400, that has the most room to grow. |

I kicked off this thread than went to bed. Thanks for all the info and suggestions everyone. A few people asked what I like. Probably my favorite all time series Are Preacher and Transmetropolitan, but I have full runs and decent grades of both. Favorite marvel super hero books, with the caveat-ive given up on them, are x men, asm, daredevil. Favorite dc, pretty much just batman and gl. I've always wanted a gsx or a as 129, but I gotta keep saving for both. I love old ec horror covers. I appreciate all the solicitations too. I really just mostly wanted to see what others would do. If you had 400 You could spend guilt free on a comic (s) investment, what are you buying? Thanks everyone |
