Heard they fired their entire staff with no reason given and hadn't even notified customers. Anybody know anything?

That was a hoax, I can attest that it was false.

My proof:

I did two sketch covers for a client who sent them to PGX. When I heard the rumor I texted him about it and he called PGX and they confirmed that it was false, and that this exact rumor arises about once a year.

We Love Comics' youtube channel covered this earlier today, @Masochism is right. This was a malicious rumor intended to hurt PGX. I don't use PGX but this is still pretty screwed up.

Its kind of heartwarming; that we can always count on one thing to bring CBCS & CGC aficionados together: the mutual love of PGX jokes.

In all seriousness, despite the many comments regarding PGX quality (or lack thereof), its a business; and to make false claims isn't funny. There are people who work for PGX who, despite how we feel about the product, are doing the best they can with the tools they have; for their customers, and in the end, to provide for their families. Screwing with people's means of living for kicks isn't funny.

My two cents. If you'll excuse me, I have to get this soapbox back before midnight, or it'll turn back into a PGX slab.

PGX Comics ownership has terminated much of it's staff, including the only professional grader, presser and restoration expert they employed. The owner has no intention of replacing them with qualified professionals. He intends to operate PGX by himself with the assistance of a friend who has no experience. The remaining employees who were not released have walked out due to a hostile work environment (which I can personally attest to experiencing). The owner has often been both verbally and emotionally abusive to his employees and continued to do so no matter how many times we requested that he adjust his behavior. This was just one of many issues we dealt with from him on a daily basis.

The most important person who was fired was our manager, Justin Edwards. He was the lead grader, the only qualified restoration expert in the building, and our professional presser. Justin was hired over 5 years ago to clean up the mess that had been made of the company's reputation during it's formative years. Ownership fought his efforts repeatedly, all while creating a climate of abuse in the workplace.

Against Justin's insistence and advice, PGX never created a proper record for the majority of the books they have graded in the last 10+ years. Nor has the owner ever provided his staff with a professional work space, computers, most supplies, or much of any support whatsoever. I witnessed all of this and more.

During the last few months, Justin has been repeatedly pressured by ownership to purchase comics with the intention of grading and selling them under a shill account (for the owner). He refused to assist the owner with this endeavor on the grounds that it was unethical and possibly criminal. He has been terminated without warning and ownership chose not to tell explain why, even when asked by Justin directly. I witnessed all of this as well.

The owner had been taking back control from management for several months now. It was during this time that our two most recent mistakes occurred: a fraudulent art scam and the authentication of a counterfeit book. There were also several other mistakes, but those two are the most important.

I can provide you with whatever you may need to prove who I am and my employment with the company. Just let me know.

Thank you for your time,
Aaron

So there you have it. This is what I have witnessed for the last 4+ years I worked for PGX Comics. If you have any questions, just ask.

I don't know what to make of this, but he is definitely serious about his stance.

Damn, sounds like PGX has some 'splainin to do. I'd also like to get an actual statement from Justin Edwards regarding this situation, if he was fired for taking a stance against unethical and potentially criminal activity from PGX...this could get really interesting.

It's not totally true - and it's not totally false. They did fire Aaron and Justin. Justin being the restoration expert, presser, manager and a grader. Aaron Sasson is talking to everyone that will listen. Justin Edwards signed an NDA and isn't saying much.

I'm sure it comes as a surprise to many there were any employees at PGX to fire.

The problem is, even if it's totally false, there were rumors of the owner selling trimmed books graded by PGX through a schil account.

Even if this guy is full of it, how do you trust them?

To sum it up in my perspective. The owner is a jerk to PGX employees. The top grader/restorer/presser got fired because the owner wanted him to grade restored or trimmed comics as un-restored so he could sell them for top dollar value on a fake account. He said no, got fired, so did the other people within PGX that knew what was transpiring.

The guy on "We Love Comics" - YouTube channel made a video stating he contacted the owner of PGX and PGX denies everything. He said they are fully staffed etc etc.

My take on it, the owner got shot down by their main grader because he wouldn't do unethical practices and he said its illegal. This scared the owner of PGX and he fired him thinking "out of sight, out of mind." As for the recent "Museum Edition" of The Walking Dead passing for legit through PGX, again, the owner thinks that since he fired his grader, it will be out of sight, out of mind. Of course PGX will stay open because now its just the owner and the ex-pizza delivery driver guy working there...

Then there is the devils advocate take on it. Maybe the main grader made too many mistakes (ex. Museum Edition of the Walking Dead). Then he and his crony got fired for it. Maybe the two that came forward in saying they got fired for no reason, are the ones that are actually grading and selling the restored & trimmed comics as un-restored high grades. This story is in retaliation?

There's a lcs up in Phoenix (Mesa) whose name I don't recall offhand that has two fully loaded walls of PGX graded books. The comics are nice looking at lower prices. I wonder how that owner feels about this turn of events today? Other than someone cherry picking some for resubmission or unknowing newbies, sales are probably going to be worse than normal.

This happened in 2006. More than 10 years ago. As you can see they are still around. PGX will be around forever they are the cockroaches of the grading industry.

COLLECTOR conditionfreak private msg quote post Address this user
The official statement addresses "a" leaving of one employee, and that PGX is still in business and planning to hire another person and grow their business.

Which is nothing new to the previous youtube link.

No one from "that side" has addressed multiple firings, or any shenanigans in grading and authentication. And isn't that what PGX customers would be concerned about? They won't care someone got replaced. But, if the work is being done competently and professionally.
