Exclusive: She-Hulk Will Introduce Multiple Hulks
By FAITH MCKAY

Filming is wrapping up on the new Disney+ series, She-Hulk. As that happens, more news is bound to begin to come out about the series that will star Tatiana Maslany as the title character, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, and further develop the Hulk lore for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, we’ve exclusively learned from one of our trusted and proven insiders one development in the show that will carry forward. She-Hulk will introduce multiple Hulks into the Marvel Universe, and those characters are something we can expect to see in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Fans have watched Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner for years, always wanting more from the beloved character. It’s going to be interesting to see how Marvel moves forward with building the Hulk lore from here. We were unable to learn how many Hulks they will be introducing throughout the episodes of the series, but there are plenty to pull from in the comics. There’s of course the Incredible Hulk, aka Bruce Banner, aka Professor Hulk, played by Mark Ruffalo. Since they’ll be introducing more Hulks in She-Hulk, it’s great that they’re bringing the original in for the Marvel Cinematic Universe series. They’ll have Jennifer Walters, also known as She-Hulk herself. Amadeus Cho, frequently known as Asian Hulk, is a character fans have been waiting to see on screen for a long time and would make a great choice for a She-Hulk introduction.

There’s Betty Ross, also known as Red She-Hulk. Betty Ross is a love interest for Bruce Banner. We saw her in the solo Hulk movie starring Edward Norton, though she hasn’t yet the Red She-Hulk in that movie. Because of her presence in that film, it may be too complicated to bring her in now, but she’d be an interesting character to bring into the present Marvel storyline.

One of the big questions here is how She-Hulk will introduce all of these other Hulks. Will this be something that happens gradually over the series? For example, will Jennifer Walters be seeking out other Hulks in an attempt to learn more about herself or something specific? Her character is a lawyer, so searching out people is likely something she does for cases frequently. She may be on a mission that leads to her seeking out these other Hulks. Alternatively, will there be a major event that changes multiple people, and suddenly these people see their lives changed?

We know that She-Hulk is going to see Jennifer Walters as a lawyer. The show is going to focus on that side of her life and will reportedly be a legal comedy. If the multiple Hulks were somehow involved in a trial that the main character was working on throughout the series, that may make sense to make the multiple Hulks a more central part of the storyline. However, it’s also possible these characters will just be introduced quietly during the series, leading to a bigger future down the road.

One thing is for sure, these story changes are going to have a fun and lasting effect on future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.

Day of the Dead TV Series Gets Poster and Premiere Date From SYFY

The first trailer for an adaptation of George A. Romero's Day of the Dead debuted earlier this summer, though it was only touting a "fall" release date, with a new poster for the upcoming series confirming that the series will be premiering on SYFY on October 15th. The past year has seen a number of highly anticipated projects earn delays, either in production or in release dates, with October 15th now slated to be a major day for horror fans, as it marks not only the series premiere of Day of the Dead, but it will also see the release of Halloween Kills and Venom: Let There Be Carnage in theaters. Check out the poster for the new Day of the Dead TV series below.

The Day of the Dead series is the intense story of six strangers, as they try to survive the first 24 hours of an undead invasion. The ode to Romero’s famous flesh-eaters reminds us that sometimes all it takes to bring people together is a horde of hungry zombies trying to rip them apart.

Day of the Dead stars Keenan Tracey (Bates Motel), Daniel Doheny (Alex Strangelove), Natalie Malaika (Fractured), Kristy Dinsmore (Vikings), and newcomer Morgan Holmstrom. The series is showrun and written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas. Steven Kostanski executive produces the series and directs the first four episodes.

The new series is inspired by the third film in Romero's iconic zombie series that kicked off with Night of the Living Dead and was continued with Dawn of the Dead. Day of the Dead saw survivors of the zombie apocalypse taking to an underground bunker, with researchers and members of the military using a cache of zombies to experiment on in hopes of finding a permanent solution to the undead horde.

With the new series taking some narrative deviations from the source material, director Kostanski pointed out the ways in which the project is inspired by Romero.

"Well, I can say honestly that the on-set experience for that show was such a scrappy low-budget adventure that it definitely felt like what I imagined Romero felt like on the '70s movies, where it was a lot of really thinking on our feet and seeing how we can stretch our budget as much as possible," Kostanski detailed to ComicBook.com. "It's a very low-budget affair but we really pushed hard to have as many crazy gags and stuff as possible. I can't explicitly give any details on plot or anything like that. It's not really my place to divulge those secrets just yet, but I can say that I had a blast shooting and I had a great time working with the showrunners. I really feel like we've made something that really captures the spirit of the era of Romero's movies. So I hope people like it."

Day of the Dead premieres on October 15th.

Exclusive: Huntress Live-Action Project In The Works

One of the things Birds of Prey did well is introduce a cast of characters from DC comics that audiences want to know more about. Now, the studio has shown they’re getting on that, with the recent announcement of Jurnee Smollett signing on for Black Canary for HBO Max. But what about some of the other characters we met in the DC film? What about The Huntress? We’ve now learned from one of our trusted and proven inside sources that the studio is currently developing a live-action Huntress project.

Huntress is one of those hero titles that have been taken up by many different people over the years. In the comics, the title has actually been taken up by both heroes and villains. Helena Bertinelli was the Huntress we saw in Birds of Prey played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead and is hopefully the character and actress they’re working with on this new live-action film, though we were unable to confirm that this is their intention. The Black Canary movie for HBO Max will be using the same actress from Birds of Prey, which will connect her movie to the DC Extended Universe where Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn exists, so it’s a fair guess that DC is currently making similar plans with their new Huntress project.

Right now, DC has a lot of interesting projects happening. It can get a little bit confusing, particularly since they aren’t as committed as Marvel is to creating one, unified cinematic universe. While it would make the most sense that the new live-action Huntress project will include Mary Elizabeth Winstead playing the part, and possibly even include some crossover to the new Black Canary film, we’ve seen that DC is willing to have a project take place in an alternate universe if it better aligns with the creative vision for their project. This means we’ll have to wait to see how this project develops as they get all their places in place. This also naturally raises questions about a Harley Quinn appearance.

In the comics and animated projects, Huntress interacts with a lot of other DC characters, so the opportunity to introduce new characters in this solo project is there. However, she’s also connected to those Birds of Prey characters already. If the studio sees Mary Elizabeth Winstead playing Huntress once again, then the story takes place in the same world as Birds of Prey, which invites appearances from any characters in that film.

Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn is a fan-favorite character, and one most often seen in a supporting role in DC films. Will she be likely to show up in the new Huntress project? While that’s certainly a possibility, it would seem likely that DC would worry about Harley Quinn’s draw overshadowing Huntress in her own solo movie. Instead, appearances by Black Canary may happen, connecting the two new solo films for audiences. Alternatively, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya would be a fun choice. The actress doesn’t currently have her own solo film announced. She was popular in Birds of Prey and the actress has expressed that she’d be willing to return.

The Huntress project is certainly proof that DC is doing more to keep their cinematic universe exciting and full of fresh characters from the comics. It will be interesting to see how they bring these projects to life, and how they connect for audiences.

‘Cobra Kai’ Renewed For Season 5 At Netflix Ahead Of Season 4 Premiere

Netflix has renewed Cobra Kai for season 5 ahead of its fourth season premiere in Dec. Production on the new season is set to begin in Atlanta this fall.

The news comes as no surprise after the popular series earned four Emmy nominations in July including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy, Outstanding Stunt Performance, and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy.

Cobra Kai is a spin-off series connected to The Karate Kid franchise following the competitive world of martial arts in Southern California starring Ralph Macchio as the titular character Daniel LaRusso and William Zabka as his nemesis Johnny Lawrence. The Netflix project revisits both characters in present-day as they launch dojos of their own and mentor the next generation of karate kids.

Cancellations/Renewals Scorecard: TV Shows Ended Or Continuing In 2020-21 Season

Season 4 picks up after the events of the season 3 finale that saw Daniel and Johnny combine their dojos to take on the villainous John Kreese (Martin Kove) at the All Valley Tournament. The season is connected to The Karate Kid Part III and will see the return of Kreese’s equally evil best friend Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith).

Produced by Sony Pictures Television, Cobra Kai is written and executive produced by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg via their production company, Counterbalance Entertainment. Will Smith, James Lassiter, and Caleeb Pinkett executive produce for Westbrook Entertainment along with Susan Ekins. Macchio and Zabka also serve as executive producers.

The first three seasons of the series are available to stream via Netflix now.

The CW's Heroes and Villains Unite for a Five-Part Flash Premiere

Eight seasons in and The Flash still knows how to surprise.

While Grant Gustin’s speedy superhero only wrapped up his seventh season a month ago, we’re not too far from the launch of his eighth, which The CW announced today will kick off with a five-part epic event that will bring more than a half-dozen heroes and villains from throughout the Arrowverse to Central City for a massive storyline called “Armageddon.”

According to the event’s logline, a powerful alien threat arrives on Earth under mysterious circumstances and Barry (Grant Gustin), Iris (Candice Patton) and the rest of Team Flash are pushed to their limits in a desperate battle to save the world. But with time running out, and the fate of humanity at stake, Flash and his companions will also need to enlist the help of some old friends if the forces of good are to prevail.

Those allies come from The CW’s other DC shows and include more than a few surprises—Javicia Leslie as Batwoman, Brandon Routh as the Atom, Cress Williams as Black Lightning, Chyler Leigh as Sentinel, Kat McNamara as Mia Queen and Osric Chau as Ryan Choi. In addition, Tom Cavanagh and Neal McDonough will return as two of the small screen’s biggest bads, the Reverse-Flash and Damien Darhk.

While The CW’s Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz has said that “Armageddon” isn’t technically a crossover event—it’ll be limited to The Flash, after all—it’s clear that it’s much bigger than your standard season premiere.

“Simply put, these are going to be some of the most emotional Flash episodes ever,” shared Flash Executive Producer Eric Wallace. “Plus, there are some truly epic moments and huge surprises that await our fans. And we’re doing them on a scale that's bigger and bolder than our traditional Flash episodes. So yes, ‘Armageddon’ is a lot more than just another graphic novel storyline. It’s going to be a true event for Flash and Arrowverse fans, old and new. Honestly, I can’t wait for audiences to see what we’ve got planned.”

The Flash wrapped up its most recent season with another large-scale event, albeit a bit smaller in scale than “Armageddon.” The two-part season finale, “Heart of the Matter” (above), introduced Jordan Fisher as Bart Allen and brought back the villain Godspeed, as well as John Wesley Shipp’s Jay Garrick, Cavanagh’s Reverse-Flash, Carlos Valdes’ Vibe and Jessica Parker Kennedy’s XS. However, big as the finale was it ended rather definitively suggesting that fans are unlikely to find any narrative threads that set up “Armageddon” there. (Not that you shouldn’t go and rewatch “Heart of the Matter,” anyhow. You totally should.)

The Flash’s eighth season, along with the five-part “Armageddon,” kicks off on Tuesday, November 16th at 8 p.m. (7 p.m. CST). Be sure to keep your eye on DCComics.com for more news on the premiere event in the months ahead, along with announcements regarding the rest of your favorite DCTV shows, and if you feel like discussing the news, head on over to the DC Community and share your thoughts with other Arrowverse fans!

‘Babylon 5’ Series Reboot From J. Michael Straczynski In Works At the CW
By Denise Petski

Babylon 5, from left: Richard Biggs, Jerry Doyle, Claudia Christian, Bruce Boxleitner

A new version of the Emmy-winning space opera television series Babylon 5 is in the works. The CW has put in development Babylon 5, described as a “from-the-ground-up reboot” of the critically acclaimed 1990s series, from original series creator J. Michael Straczynski and Warner Bros. Television.

Written by Straczynski, the reboot revolves around John Sheridan (played by Bruce Boxleitner in the original series), an Earthforce officer with a mysterious background, who is assigned to Babylon 5, a five-mile-long space station in neutral space, a port of call for travelers, smugglers, corporate explorers and alien diplomats at a time of uneasy peace and the constant threat of war. His arrival triggers a destiny beyond anything he could have imagined, as an exploratory Earth company accidentally triggers a conflict with a civilization a million years ahead of us, putting Sheridan and the rest of the B5 crew in the line of fire as the last, best hope for the survival of the human race.

Straczynski executive produces via his Studio JMS. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.
Created by Straczynski, the original Babylon 5 debuted in 1993 with the pilot film The Gathering. A future-history story covering the years 2257-2262, with each year corresponding to one season, Babylon 5 was the first series to introduce viewers to the concept of a five-year arc, with a defined beginning, middle and end. The series launched in 1994 and ran for five seasons and 110 additional episodes. Cast included Bruce Boxleitner, Michael O’Hare, Claudia Christian, Jerry Doyle, Mira Furlan, Richard Biggs, Andrea Thompson, Bill Mumy, Jason Carter, Tracy Scoggins, Stephen Furst, Patricia Tallman, Peter Jurasik, Andreas Katsulas, Jeff Conaway and Robert Rusler.

Straczynski won over a dozen awards for his work on the series, including two Hugo Awards, the Saturn Award, the Space Frontier Foundation Award, and the Ray Bradbury Award. Following the original series, Straczynski continued to tell stories in the Babylon 5 universe, with the TNT series Crusade, seven subsequent feature-length films, and a series of novels, novelizations, short stories, and comics from DC.

Straczynski most recently created, wrote and show-ran (with the Wachowskis) the Netflix series Sense8 and was nominated for a Producers Guild Award for his work on the series finale film. He also created the Showtime series Jeremiah. His script for the Clint Eastwood–directed feature film Changeling, starring Angelina Jolie, was nominated for a BAFTA for Best Original ScreenplayHis other film credits include Underworld: Awakening, World War Z, Thor and Ninja Assassin.

In addition to his film and television work, Straczynski is an acclaimed comics writer for DC and Marvel, receiving the Eisner, Icon and Inkpot Lifetime Achievement Awards for his books, which have sold over 13 million copies worldwide. His new novel, Together We Will Go, has just been published by Simon and Schuster, and he is head of the creative council for a new comics publishing company, Artists, Writers and Artisans (AWA). Straczynski is repped by A3 Artists Agency and Gendler-Kelly.

William Shatner’s ‘TekWar’ In Works As Adult Animated Series With Pure Imagination Studios
By Denise Petski

September 28, 2021 7:00am

EXCLUSIVE: William Shatner and his Shatner Universe has teamed with Pure Imagination Studios to develop and produce a mixed-reality, adult animated series based on Shatner’s hit science fiction thriller TekWar.

Developed and written by Matt Michnovetz (24, Star Wars: The Clone Wars), TekWar is based on Shatner’s series of bestselling detective novels, published in 1989. The novels are set in the year 2043, 54 years into the future. The story is based on a former Los Angeles detective in futuristic Los Angeles who was framed for the crime of dealing an illegal mind-altering drug in the form of a bio-digital microchip. It poses a great threat to humanity and has the potential to become a virus that will lead to an unrecoverable future.

TekWar is being conceptualized as a mixed-reality animated series where viewers will be able to participate with the show in different forms of technology via mobile, tablets or wearable devices. The series can be viewed stand alone, but the level of immersion into the show, its characters and technology is enhanced by the ability to become part of the narrative.

Producers say the mixed reality animated series is the first step in building a real-time multiverse around a property and Shatner, who has been involved in pioneering new frontiers his entire career.

The franchise began as a bestselling book series and became a hit live action television series featuring Shatner, as well as a comic book series and a video game. The Emmy-nominated series, which ran from 1994-1996, aired on USA Network and Sci-Fi Channel in the U.S. and CTV in Canada.

“We are very excited to work with the legendary William Shatner to reimagine the world of TekWar at a post-pandemic time,” said John P. Roberts, Pure Imagination’s Chief Content Officer. “TekWar was truly ahead of it’s time envisioning a future filled with AI and the world of simulated reality. It’s becoming our reality now and we’re excited to build a storyverse around it.”

“We want to do something that hasn’t been done before. Who better to do that with than one of the greatest legends in the sci-fi universe,” said Joshua Wexler, Pure Imagination’s Chief Executive of Fun. “The world and story of TekWar transcends traditional linear media and has the potential to be experienced on multiple entertainment platforms, some that exist today and some we’ll have to invent, and we can’t wait to get started.”

“My association with Pure Imagination is beyond my sheer imagination,” said Shatner, best known for his roles on Boston Legal and Star Trek. Imagine bringing to life this wonderful character in a variety of ways, so technologically advanced. This is the future and I am looking forward to it.”

My initial reaction was Fantastic! Then it went to WTF when I realized it is a “Reboot”.

Even though JMS is going to write it, I just don’t have faith that it won’t be a steamy pile of pooh compared to the original. Plus Warner Bros (CW) jacked it around the first time, cancelling half way through, to which it had to finished on a separate network, aka Lucifer.
