Ok..not TV but a movie on Amazon...about a minute into the latest Hellboy movie and already the tone is being set for what seems like a stupid movie.
Now I love the comics and the first 2 movies so I was already heading into this with low, low expectations....I fear they may go even lower than what I was bracing myself for.

Have I told you about the time I dropped off 3,000 comics at SDCC? Scifinator private msg quote post Address this user
So, i am watching The Blacklist tonight and i find a couple of oddities.

Part of the first oddity pulls into the second which was Huey Lewis appearing as himself. I want to elaborate more on the other oddity so if interested in the Huey Lewis part, you will want to go to the link below.

The part that really struck me is that clear out of the blue, a secondary character, Glen (Clark Middleton) is killed off in the series, apparently by West Nile Virus. As the episode continues on with this storyline, I think, oh cr@p is this an actual tribute episode? If you know who the actor Clark Middleton was (most well known for dramatically different characters in The Blacklist and the revival Twin Peaks), then you know there was underlying health condition (adolescent rheumatoid arthritis I believe) and what with the pandemic, it seemed plausible.

Unfortunately, sure enough, before the end credits, The Blacklist posted a memorial to the actor. The episode was well done interweaving the film tribute into the ongoing storyline. And in checking, turns out he passed in 2020 of...West Nile Virus in LA.

It has long baffled me that this series doesn’t receive more awards/accolades, this part tribute episode should.

Anyway if interested in further info, here is the TV Line article: Link

@Scifinator I've been a fan of The Blacklist since the show started and continue to watch it. I had the same thoughts on this past episode about Glen. Sorry to hear he passed away. He also had a role on Fringe, if anyone remembers that show.

The Blacklist is good, James Spader is great. But at the end of the day, it's a network procedural type show. It's a very good network show, but it honestly isn't on the same level as the great recent TV dramas that have been on cable or premium networks.

@Lonestar - i too have been watching since day one and agree on Spader. How he has not been up and won several Emmy’ s for the role is beyond me. Was also big fan of Fringe. Hmmm, I don’t remember Clark Middleton in Fringe.

On Fringe, he owned/ran a used/antique bookstore that dealt in odd and unusual books. He was in probably 5-10 episodes spread out over the series. Peter/Olivia would go to him if they were looking for a book that would help in an investigation. I think he was the one who found a ZFT manifesto, that was a key plot point during the middle seasons.

You mentioned Twin Peaks in your earlier post. I was a huge fan of the original run, but don't recall him in that show.

@Lonestar oops meant revival not original. And, yes, i do remember book store arcs now that you mention it, but not Middleton. Been too long for me nut i also haven’t watched any of the episodes a second time. Loved Fringe. I thought it was a good new version of X-Files genre.

Charlie Cox Returning As Daredevil In A Marvel Series
By DOUG NORRIE

Charlie Cox made his mark playing Daredevil while that show aired on Netflix. His performance as the titular superhero did help bring a new look and feel to the character we really hadn’t seen before. It was something of a breath of fresh air considering they greatly humanized Matt Murdock while also giving him an edge and sadness that made everything play so well on screen. And it looks like Cox did such a great job that Marvel wants to keep him firmly in the role. It appears Charlie Cox has signed on for yet another Disney+ show playing Daredevil.

Marvel Studios recasting Charlie Cox as Daredevil has been hanging around the rumor mill for months now, but it appears we are finally getting official word about another project. The latest has it that Cox will take part in the series Secret Invasion. This show, on Disney+, will star Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelson as Talos. It will follow the epic comic book storyline that puts almost the entirety of the Marvel comic book universe in a fight against the Skulls. That shape-shifting alien race has infiltrated Earth and are posing as all different heroes and leaders. Daredevil apparently is joining the fray in some shape or form.

This news about Charlie Cox expanding his role in the Marvel Universe comes on the heels of other rumors that have the actor reprising the character in the upcoming Spider-Man 3. Like Secret Invasion, the former is setting up to be a true event on screen, bringing together a massive ensemble cast. It will include previous iterations of the Spider-Man universe with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield jumping into the web-slinging suit. But a ton of other characters look like they are getting in the mix as well.

Charlie Cox staying in the Daredevil role is such welcome news for the Marvel brand as they attempt to retain continuity from previous iterations of characters who existed outside Marvel Studios. Daredevil, of course, first appeared on Netflix with Cox in the lead role. The show began The Defenders arc on the streaming platform, introducing a set of characters who lived in the same timeline as The Avengers movies but never could make mention of the latter.

Daredevil ran for three seasons earning fantastic reviews and critical acclaim, sitting at an average 91% on Rotten Tomatoes for its run. A big reason was what Charlie Cox brought to the role as Matt Murdock, a trial lawyer by day and vigilante at night. It was something of an origin story for the blind character and Cox handled it perfectly. It’s easy to see why Marvel wants to bringing him into the fold rather than casting a whole new actor.

The reason Charlie Cox can now fully join the Marvel Studios universe is that the rights Netflix had over his Daredevil character along with the rest of that crew (Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher) finally hit its sunset this year. Marvel was then able to take back control of the production rights. The timeline wasn’t the same for each character, effectively having to wait two years since each appeared on Netflix, but they’ve all made their way over now.

Whether we see the rest of the Netflix crew make their way over remains to be seen. Chances are good most are worked into the fold. But it’s a good start with Charlie Cox here and signals Marvel is completely willing to keep the character continuity when they have the perfect casting done already. The six-episode Secret Invasion is set to start filming this April.

Sasha Calle As The New Supergirl

By ROSS BONAIME
clickable text

Last week, DC announced that Young and the Restless actress Sasha Calle will be the next actress to play Supergirl. Calle will be making her debut in The Flash, which is set to be released on November 4th, 2022. But with over a year to wait, one artist has taken to Instagram to show their interpretation of what Calle might look like in the role.

Bosslogic is a digital artist on Instagram who has brought to life various ideas tied to comic books, whether it’s making bejeweled rapper Lil Uzi Vert look like Vision, or turning Emma Stone’s Cruella de Vil into Harley Quinn. But his version of Sasha Calle as Supergirl is pretty straightforward, taking the actresses’ likeness and placing her in the Supergirl outfit. Some in the comments are complaining that Supergirl is blonde and that Calle in this image is a brunette, but hey, Calle also isn’t an alien either, so maybe use some imagination?

But Sasha Calle is an intriguing choice for the role, considering she has a pretty light IMDB page. Calle has played Lola Rosales on The Young and the Restless since 2018, and she received a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Younger Performer in a Drama Series last year. Beyond that, Calle’s only other credit is starring in the YouTube miniseries Socially Awkward. The Flash director Andy Muschietti said that he looked at over four hundred auditions before deciding that Sasha Calle was perfect for the role. According to Deadline, Calle will be joining The Flash team soon, as the production is set to begin filming next month.

Prior to Sasha Calle playing Kara Zor-El / Supergirl, the role was first played by Helen Slater in 1984’s Supergirl. The character also appeared on the seventh season of Smallville, played by Laura Vandervoort, while recently, Melissa Benoist played the character on Supergirl, which will conclude in its upcoming sixth season. Supergirl has appeared in several animated series and video games over the years, and in 2018, Warner Bros. and DC announced they were moving forward with a new Supergirl film. It is unclear, however, if Calle will also be starring in this film, or if this proposed project is still even in development.

Despite The Flash being in development for almost a decade, little is known about this project so far. The Flash has had several different directors and writers join and leave the project, while Ezra Miller has been signed on to play Barry Allen / The Flash since 2014. Andy Muschietti has said that The Flash will incorporate parts of the Flashpoint storyline into the film, and we know that Ben Affleck will reprise his role of Batman for the film. There have been rumors that Michael Keaton is coming back as Bruce Wayne / Batman from another universe, but this casting has yet to be confirmed. So far, only Miller, Affleck, and Sasha Calle are confirmed for The Flash.

With The Flash still a while away, Bosslogic’s interpretation of Sasha Calle as Supergirl might be the closest thing we get to see the actress in the role for quite some time.

I saw this news a day or two ago. I was surprised they didn’t use Melissa Benoist, she’s super charming in the role.

But they’re definitely mining the multiverse idea here.

Lineup looks pretty weak. I just dropped HBO. Just have Hulu now. Looks like the only big shows coming out are Falcon and WS, Invincible, Godzilla vs Kong, and Snyder Cut. Am I missing anything?

@moodswing Nope, just the finale of WandaVision. Other than that I think you nailed it!

Marvel announced that the Loki show will be on Disney+ in June. I think the other day Netflix announced a release date in May for Jupiter's Legacy, which is based on a comic series. There's always something around the corner.

This might not be everyone's cup of tea but Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham has been delightful so far.
