If they're having "all four" covers replaced, and midtown has six covers available, I wonder if and how many of those are going to be in bad shape...

@Drogio ...goddamnit, really? *sigh* My OCD demands I buy this to keep my set of Marvel ASM 300 swipes complete, but between Shattered & 8-Bit, I’m getting ready to break the habit.

Midtown will ship anything....I've gotten new releases that were closer to VF. And all they offered me in compensation was 10% off...and that's why I don't order from them anymore unless it's a last resort.

Unless you're going 9.8 graded, I think the 8 or 16 bit (I've seen them referred to in both ways) still available. Not that popular.

And there have been other swipes too in the last few month (non marvel I believe)...that's a tough OCD to satisfy...

The swipes of asm 300 and hulk 181 have been relentless recently ... Think a few creators / retailers must have caught on there are those collecting every swipe for these.

Immortal Hulk (hulk 181 homage) is advertised as 16 bit (frankies & golden apple)

Superman #1 (Action #1 homage) is advertised as 8 bit (frankies) and 16 bit (golden apple)

Amazing Spidermam #1 (ASM 300 homage) is advertised as 8 bit (Frankies) and ?? Bit (golden apple).

Anyone checking theses to make sure they got the "bit" right?

I think the 8-bit covers that are made out of Lego are much better. (FYI, these are about 8-9 feet tall, at my local comic shop.)

Yes! My favorite comic store.

I know a few board members are local to Cincy, but I always forget who exactly. (Thought I think Condition Freak isn't too far north of here.) Are you from around here as well?

Cincinnati here. I tend to frequent Comic Book World, the Bookery and Queen City Comics with occasional stops at Rockin Rooster, and the Cheviot UU&A location.

I've been to embarrassingly few of the plethora of comic book stores we have around here. I did recently go to Comics 2 Games, to play pinball. Man, that guy has some awesome art on the walls. (Including the first Jason Todd panels!)

Next on my list is Parker's Records and Comics. Someone posted a link to their online store a few weeks back, and while looking I noticed how physically close it was.

Hmm ... maybe I should do that tomorrow...

Those lego walls are impressive. They need to publish instructions and a parts list for theses! Untapped market there!

Anyone going for the rare "missing left hand" Return of Wolverine #1 variant?

For comparison, the other covers (similar "artwork" if you can call it that) are below.

Yes the amount (variety) of variant covers is nuts today but there are only 1000,2000,3000 of these released at any given time..the quantity in most cases is still pretty minimal.. So in 20 years time if someone really really wants the book, it's not going to be as easy to find as say an asm 300.

The main problem if investing now is there is significantly more risk you got the WRONG variant.. You can't just get a run of comics and expect if it's a key issue that it will be worth money. Who knows what collectors in 20 years time will want..

One thing is certain - action 1000 and asm 796-800 regular covers aside- for the most part anyone wanting comics from this era is going to have a much harder time than those seeking comics from the copper age.

So I get the covers I like and want on the assumption there will be others who will want them too, now and tomorrow ( though they won't be getting my copies )

Something missing in this context...collecting comics has nothing in common with the bronze age, or silver age for that matter. I grew up in the late sixties/early seventies when you bought most of your comics off a spin rack at a grocery or drug store.....as kids we read them, tossed them in boxes under the bed and when mom cleaned the room she heaved them box and all straight into the trash. Because of this, many older books are scarecer and much harder to find....we thought nothing of clipping the coupons and sending off for the glow in the dark Frankenstein or Civil war playset with an actual exploding bridge. In fact Marvel encouraged this very thing with ./...Marvel Stamps. How many people today own a copy of ASM 129 missing the value stamp or perhaps an Incredible Hulk #181.
Compare this to modern comic books...you buy them from the store and they are often bagged and boarded before they are taken home. It has become an entire different dynamic insuring nearly all copies will survive to a future generation. Cover prices at 4 and 5 dollars a book ensure kids today protect and preserve their books ......Kids are shown to save and protect their comics, and often the kid who buys a variant cover will know and understand what that means and protect the book well for the future. Nowdays kids sell their collections rather than mom tossing it out by the boxes when she cleans under the bed.

I was discussing with a friend the other day and He began me wondering about something I thought perhaps someone could weigh in on.....While Variants abound , and are beyond overdone......I was attempting to differentiate alternate covers with vaiant covers. By this I mean by example...consider Teen titans 20....the main print run seems divided between two separate covers if you ignore the various retailer incentives etc. I had offered that because the normal cover of the book was divided between these two they would be more accurately called alternative covers, while the more rare or shop specific ones would be actual variants...thoughts?

Another thought. Are all the shop and artist special editions or variants counted in the total advertised print run. As far as I can see they only give you one number so a so called 500/700/1000/3000 or a 1:10/1:100/1:1000 print run could be a very large ....BS... story who verifies all this. What about this, I think it’s X-Men masked & unmasked book. Is there such a thing as comic print run police. I not trying to be sarcastic but this question arises and should be pondered
