That "Old Comic Book Smell"629

Collector Rafel private msg quote post Address this user
Does anybody have any ideas on how to get rid of that "Old Comic Book Smell"? So far I've let mine air out for a week but not in the sun. Is there a better way of doing this?

I've never tried it, but I've heard that putting them in a box with clean kitty litter for a week or two with do the trick. Just keep the cats out of it!!

Microchamber paper will supposedly help with oders.

Put them in a box with a baking soda fridge pack then tape it sealed. Depending on the smell you'll want to leave them 2-4 weeks. Don't overpack the box and make sure there's plenty of room for air. Kitty litter has a similar effect. They both remove the moisture and odors from the books. Depending on how strong the odor, you may not be able to get rid of it completely.

If they're really bad (mildew/mold) there's not much that can be done. If you examine the books and see any mold at all, separate those from the others so it doesn't spread.

Defiantly check for mold and mildew which is not good. This smell should be distinctive from the normal old comic book smell which I believe is caused by acid migration from inside the paper. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
