What’s with the lawsuit against CBCS?6273

Collector bige31 private msg quote post Address this user
Has anyone read or heard about this? I’m not quite up to date on legal jargon but seems like metropolis collectibles was mad that CBCS sold to Beckett. https://www.bleedingcool.com/2018/05/06/metropolis-collectibles-sues-cbcs-grading-and-slabbing-company/

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user
Very hard for us to discuss this one without a copy of the agreement.

My guess would be that the Beckett acquisition was attractive to CBCS for other reasons but may have violated the terms of the contract somehow.

I've been with CBCS since October of 2014 and I don't know the details of this. We'll be watching this thread closely. We don't want to see assumptions & rumors turn in internet facts that could be potentially damaging to anyone involved. I'd suggest leaving this to the legal departments & judge.

@TimBildhauser I agree wholeheartedly. If it’s anything that I love about Cbcs is their constant goal of providing the best product and experience for their customers. I would just be disappointed if this causes a stir for no reason. I also find it fishy that Bleeding Cool wrote about it when they are partnered with CGC. That could just be a coincidence but I to would hate the “Fake News” to spread and damage the company that I think is the best in the business.

There’s the rub. Borock doesnt have that kind of reputation, but who really knows if that actually happened and if so who shiestered the deal. If it actually goes to trial, it’ll likely all become public

Bring in Robert Mueller, this smells of Russian collusion to me. And I bet there's a payoff to some porn star hidden in there too.

I was always under the impression bleeding cool was a "rag" magazine. I think just last year they released an article slandering CBCS and claimed that they reached out to CBCS several times for comment but CBCS never responded. It was brought to light that not only was CBCS never contacted they weren't even aware of the article... Whatever the case I hope this gets cleaned up soon, there are books to be graded!

If this is true, and it very well may be yrue, it shows a clear base against CBCS, in favor of CGC, on BleefingCool part.

There isnt much to talk about unfortunately, as the original agreement isnt public. My guess is this dies fast. 15k is small potatoes, especially for a jury trial (its gonna cost more than that in legal fees).

One common tactic is to sue for less than the cost of defense fees to get a quick settlement guilty or not (and to Tim’s point, I have no idea if that is whats happening here- dont take it as fact!).

First, have a very favorable opinion of both CBCS and CGC.Both companies provide a very useful service to the comic market.

CGC is partnered with BleedingCool, CBCS is not partnered with BleedingCool.

That said, BleedingCool would naturally have a preference to portray CBCS in less than a favorable light. In that process, CGC would naturally be cast in a favorable light by BleedingCool, without a single mention of CGC in their articles.

It is a matter of implied biase.

As Matness said, apparently from second hand memory/info though, BleedingCool has effectively slighted CBCS in the past.

So, the bit about fake news as you pointed out...wjile I agree with that statement in general....it certainly seems that when it comes to CBCS, BleedingCool seems to have a malleable stance on its' generally otherwise fair and truthful reporting.

My guess is that BleedingCool would be prone to casting doubt and generally a negative sentiment towards CBCS, in order to curry favor with CGC.

I do believe that CGC would not approve of such actions on BleedingCool part, nor would they promote or condone such actions.I want to make that patently clear.

As far as this pending litigation, I think that Tim B. Summed it up very well.

We are all completely clueless as to the details of any contract between CBCS and Metropolis.

In addition, this is a legal matter and the facts should not be guessed, gossiped and rumored over.

I honestly see no reason for this thread bring open to discussion, given that there is literally nothing of substance to discuss.

Not too long ago the guy running that site (Johnson? I dont remember which thread) came on here to clear up that rumour. CGC is a sponsor (buys ads), not a partner. Big difference.

That’s like saying CNN wont bash conservatives because they sometimes buy commercials 😁

Edit, found the quote:

@robertofredrico - I'm still trying to figure out the logic that internet conversation from no one involved in the case would somehow any effect on it. Some folk need to learn how the legal system works.
