I have one variant ASM 700. I'm not even sure why I bought it. I don't like the art work or the paper it's printed on.

My final issue for variants is also ASM 800, I think things are ridiculous now with so many covers so I will take a time out from comics.

Never learns what? That people keep buying them? I think it's ridiculous too, but obviously there's a profitable number of people who think otherwise.

Just agree to buy certain artist's variants. I tend to target hughes, campbell (not all for pete's sake), and lee depending on the mood I am in. Playing pokemon with variants is sheer madness and you could find your bills not being paid. Kinda miss the days when there was one cover..kept things simple. There is such beautiful art out there now. One needs to ask themself "why do I need this variant?" There are a lot of crap variants out there where you question...why did the company bother? It is really strange to see certain artist have 2-3 cover variants for one book. I believe Mattina and dell otto come to mind. I know..an artist has to eat too. Its okay for a company like marvel to purchase the art for use at a later date and not make the market gag on 30 different flavors in one month. Marvel's use of old mcfarlane art for their 1:10000000 is just plain stupid in my eyes. Marvel ever think of selling certified prints?? I would imagine the prints would cost far less than printing a million asm 80 page issues. Like Mr T would say, "I pity the fool that reads a $20 variant as a reader copy, sucka!" Collectors do keep collecting..it is in each of our natures.

And just when you thought it couldn't get any better, marvel is testing out secret polybag variants (x-men gold 30).

House of ideas...of how to get your money.

I think marvel noticed how well power rangers 25 did for boom! That was like pouring gas on a fire with that issue. Sold out pretty quick. Variants on those were pretty nice though. Kinda felt like Charlie bucket trying to get a golden ticket.

I specialize in modern variants but even I are done with this media stunt. I will still do variants but not for crazy issues like this one

How many wonka bars do you need to ear before you vomit or get diabetes? Same rules kinda apply.

Now...i may be on to something if you hide a limited amount of marvel golden tickets in a marvel blind poly bag....i demand profit sharing if they ever use my idea!!!!!!! You are all witnesses!

Actually, it all started with Action Comics 1000, then ASM jumped on board with 800, now Iron Man....
If Marvel is going to do the same as Action Comics did with (Superman through the years)with Iron Man, then the only one I plan on getting is the first suit. The Original iron, Iron Man.

You know, I wonder if the rise of grading companies will impact the interest in polybagged books. Colllectors like to get things graded now which means pulling them out of those bags. In the 90s we left them in the bags because they were all nm as long as they stayed in there right? Just thinking out loud.

I predicted this in a thread a few months ago. They are just taking a cue from card games (MtG). Put some ultra-rare covers in black or opaque polybags, and folks will buy tons of them hoping to hit the jackpot.

It's scratch-off lottery at it's best.

When will Marvel learn? I think you should say when will the comic geek learn?

Marvel HAS learned.

They learned that stories don't sell comics anymore. Pretty covers do.

All the good stories have been told. Which is why the movies are based on old stories.

I fully agree with marximus.

Like a said earlier.. just buy the artists you love the most. Your wallet will thank you.

Getting close but I think mostly stores who put out variants are going down this time around. People will stop buying.
