Will removing the Marvel Digital Copy Redeem stickers affect the way the comic is graded?

Only on the high grades. Going only on memory, I think the highest grade it can get is 9.4. I may be wrong on that, but I do know that it will effect the grade in the nm range.

Well that pretty much defeats the whole point of having the digital code available then doesn't it.

@DarthLego not really. I never got the feeling that the digital copies were included so you can keep the book in high grade so much as it is to funnel people into their online ecosystem, which benefits them far more than someone paying $5 for the book, getting it slabbed and selling it at a markup in the gray market where they're not receiving any income.

I just thought I would say that if you use the code just don't peel the cover sticker right off. If the book becomes valuable a pressing WILL re-adhere the sticker.

Maybe Marvel has made a change to their stickers? I just tested peeling up a sticker and it would not stick back down at all. I'm just going to peel codes for books I have no plans on slabbing or selling.

Sorry I meant a real pressing not cold pressing. The heat re-activates the glue.

Personaly, I think this is a policy that CBCS should revisit in our modern digital age. 1) Removing the sticker is something that the publisher intends for the reader to do. 2) Removing the sticker does not damage the comic. I could see a justification in not allowing a 10 or 9.9, but downgrading what would otherwise be a 9.8 all the way down to 9.4 seems harsh. Just my two cents.

9.4 is just what I recall. It might be a 9.6 or 9.8. I just know that it definitely does effect the grade in that range.

wow ok this was very informative. just in case ill start making sure that the digital sticker thingy is in tacked. on another note.

.... how will the grade of the comic be affected by factory defect like on one of my comic has a corner edge improperly cut and the 2 pages are connected on the bottom corner cause of it.

thanks

"Marvel Value Stamp" that is all.

@JustThatGuy well if you argue that way then it could be argued the exclusion of a poly bag and any contents it held should affect the grade if they are missing even though they were intended to be opened and may not add to the story inside.

For the record a missing cover should count as damage but, IMHO, it should not count as heavily as a missing value stamp since it not affecting the structural integrity of the book in any way. If they can excuse big production error like missing foils on that one Avengers books then missing digital code covers can cannot carry heavy weight.

This is the conundrum that you get when you allow exceptions in any era. Moderns already get little wiggle room in grading while older, and often more valuable books get lots of leeway for the silliest of reasons. I used to get into all sorts of arguments with the CGC boardies about this. The more exceptions you have the less integrity your standard has which defeats the entire purpose of that standard. I have no issue with the idea of having no 9.x books of any era if it means making grading systems easier to use by the community. So what if some currently 9.x Edgar Church book drops a few .x's? Most are still shockingly beautiful books and I would pay for that.
