How can one determine the FMV of a book without Overstreet?

search in ebay for the comic you wish to assess and click "sold listings" under "show only" in the left side of the screen. This will give you the latest market prices (at least at ebay)

www.comicspriceguide.com

You have to create an account, but there is a free option.

Does Comic Price Guide show FMV now?

I refer to eBay's "sold" listings and GPA

I was told that for FMV on a submission form, use the raw price, not the slabbed one, so I go with www.comicspriceguide.com.

Told by the graders, or other?

I e-mailed one of the grading companies. Can't remember if it was here of CGC and was told that.

I use the same site mentioned above, it can be hit and miss, sometimes low prices with still be listed for books that have shot up due to becoming hot and supply being low. Ebay will give you an idea what people are actually paying. If you are asking so you can fill in the CBCS order form, I believe they use these values for insurance purposes in case your book is damaged while there, so don't understate the value.

From my experience, Comics Price Guide is horribly out of date on a lot of issues.

@SleepyZ on the older issues? Or current?

@DarthLego I'm mainly wanting to know so I can have a ball park estimate of what I have versus having to buy a book for prices. I'd like to be able to determine FMV on my own, but just don't know how to just yet.

@poka Thank you for that. I'm going to see if I can do that via eBay app.

@Verde No, I mean on individual issues of comic books in general. Their prices are, many times, way off. Sometimes they can get in the ballpark, but its almost as though whoever is responsible for keeping values up to date is asleep at the wheel.

@SleepyZ lol that sounds pretty accurate now and days. People have great ideas, and ventures, but give up halfway in, or just falls off the face of the planet.

CGC uses GPA for FMV. If you're on the cusp of another tier, always submit under the cheaper tier, the company will bump you up if needed. For FMV I would use ended listings from HA, Ebay, Clink, MCS and CC. FMV is mainly used for insurance purposes, so you don't lose money if you package is destroyed.

I would not use CPG, seems like they don't use actual sales except for sales from their site. Their prices are sometimes crazy because they use an algorithm.

"Our values remain simple, but our technology is not. Using a proprietary value algorithm, paired with dedicated comic enthusiasts, we are able to preserve real sales data to get up-to-the minute comic book value information."

How about using dedicated comic dealers and sites instead of enthusiasts? Hell, aren't we all comic enthusiasts? I was hoping the hiring of Tom Gordon would make this site a real trustworthy one, but it's just the same-old same old.
