| Hello, everyone. I am new to CBCS and just got my first slab. I was wondering how to identify signs of tampering, as one side of the slab is a bit different than the other. One side looks like there's a little slot or groove, maybe to help pop it open. The other has what looks like a small whitish glue mark or crack? Also, how can you tell if the inner seam has been cut and resealed? Finally, the comic does not sit perfectly flat. It looks like maybe the inner sleeve was sealed too tight. It sort of reminds me of the air pockets I've seen in some CGC cases. Has anyone experienced this before? Should I get it reslabbed? **The good news is the the online notes seem to match perfectly with the comic. I guess I am hoping everything is fine but just wanted to be sure.** ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| I'm pretty sure the markings on the sides are where they were separated when manufactured. Some look worse than your examples. As to the air pocket, I couldn't say. Any chance at a better look? |

I bought a meat grinder on amazon for $60 and it's changed my life.

| https://forum.cbcscomics.com/topic/4005/page/1/cbcs-faq/#1 What are these marks on the sides of my slab? (photo courtesy of forum member b00ch) Those are the result of the manufacturing process of the cases. They are a normal part of the case and are quite common. They are not a defect and they do not harm the integrity of the case. ![]() |

| Thanks, KaptainMyke-- Your photos make me feel much better. Is there some way to make sure the label hasn't been swapped out? And thanks, Mr_SigS -- I will try to post a better photo as soon as I am able. |

| @JMR have you read the forum thread on slab security? If the slab is less than 7 months old it may also have this feature. | ||

| Drogio, thank you. I had not heard of that. I will check to see if it has that. | ||

Just clean the area afterwards with several strokes of a (lightly) water dampened piece of cotton/paper towel/tissues. Repeat that a few times. Than finally go over the area with a dry cloth. No stain or residue is left behind, no damage whatsoever to the CGC case. |

| Is there a way to tell when the comic was slabbed? I checked and it does have the plastic "weld" through the CBCS seal, and it looks intact. I am guessing it would be pretty obvious if it were torn, but I am still curious how long ago it was graded. I tried to take several angles to show the "air pocket" inside the sleeve, but the photos could not capture it. I had a CGC comic that had what I guess people call Newton Rings, sort of a pocket of air that appeared to put pressure on the comic. This is not as concentrated, but it does seem to put "soft" pressure on the comic. I was trying to see if it would flatten out, so I have stored it horizontally. Is this a bad idea? If the pocket is on the cover, should I store it with the cover facing up or down? Sigh... I spent a small fortune on this comic, my first from CBCS. I wish I didn't have to worry about this crap. I had a high grade WWBN 32 from CGC (9.2 with ow-w) and it bothered me enough so I sent it in and had it re-slabbed. It looks great, with no sign of the pressure from the rings, although it cost me more than $50 with all the fees, insurance, shipping, etc. |
