Hey all. Just curious how you’d define this type of defect. These thicker books are harder for me to deduce what’s acceptable. Would it be a bindery tear? Could you have this in the 9.4 range? |

Looks to be graded already. Do you have access to the grader’s notes?

I think you could possibly get a 9.4 if that's the only defect with the book I think I have one that's a 9.6 and all it has is a little bit a spine ware That's just my two cents I could be wrong |

I see a blunted corner , an abrasion with paper loss and some stress lines with color breaking spine ticks. That is way beyond a bindery tear. The biding looks to be ripped off/absent altogether, where a bindery tear would normally be located. |

The notes just say tiny edge & corner wear and some spine wear. The huge white line in the pic is a reflection. It’s not a spine tic

I would call the edge wear as such with light "feathering'. The latter description could be wrong. I call it that or fraying. For the corner call - I'd call it rounded instead of blunt. Some call the wear different things, but usually it is still wear of some sort that caused a deduction of points. Grade reduction depends upon depth of wear (i.e. 'color breaking' is deeper than a bend that does not break the color. Good luck. |
