Quote:Originally Posted by OGJackster 4th print newsstands are common. If you look more, they are all over. Not so, for 3rd print newsstands. Come on man, give me *some* credit. I wouldn't have started this thread if I had any indication that it was over a $1 book ![]() ![]() ![]() There is definitely something up with 3rd print newsstands of this book. I spent the better part of an hour researching this book and literally found nothing indicating past sales or current listings. Or even any record indicating that a 3rd printing was printed in newsstand format, at all. So yeah, it is definitely rare. Dunno why, or how, though. Maybe the bulk of the run was pulped. Or: Doomsday came to life and devoured a case of Superman comics, Cookie Monster style.....and they all happened to be 3rd prints of this issue, which were headed out to newsstands for delivery but they never made it. ![]() ![]() ![]() Gonna send Doc Brown a PM about this book if he doesn't post here, he knows coppers like this very well. |

As I have not opened this bag does anyone know what the issue looks like? Do all issues have "...fold out splash back covers"? ![]() CC ![]() CC mm |

Quote:Originally Posted by CopperAgeKids https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/314329-superman-75-fourth-printing/?page=2 Fourth result on Google search for "Superman 75 third print newsstand." Why did you spend so much time looking...? Third print newsstands, while uncommon, are not unheard of. They've been known and discussed on the CGC board for several years. They aren't even remotely in the same league as Batman #457, but they should carry a small premium over third print directs (which are quite common.) There is no "2nd print newsstand", but DC tried to make do by applying stickers to direct second prints to satisfy demand (which is bizarre, because they had done 2nd print newsstands AT LEAST 3 times in their past prior to Superman #75...Superman #50, Batman #457, and Robin #1. Guess no one remembered.) For the record: 1. Superman #75 1st print, regular. 2. Superman #75 1st print, deluxe. 3. Superman #75 Platinum. 4. Superman #75 2nd print. 5. Superman #75 3rd print. 6. Superman #75 3rd print, newsstand. 7. Superman #75 4th print. 8. Superman #75 4th print, newsstand. Those are the 8 "official" versions of Superman #75, though, of course, the book was printed in other formats many times over. If one wants to get really complete, 2nd print with the newsstand sticker could be included, but I don't recognize it, because it's not its own separate print run. And no, 3rd print and 4th print newsstands WERE NOT released in collector packs, nor were they printed, like many later books (MOS #18 5th, for example) years after the fact. They were printed, like the directs, to satisfy the voracious demand for this book at the time, probably within a month or two of the book's publication. Like the three (and potentially more) newsstand later printings before it, these books were printed to satisfy immediate demand from DC's newsstand clients, wholly apart from the Direct market. And this is an example where CGC has done a disservice to the comic collecting community by not noting newsstands. |

@martymann open the bag. They are cheap enough, everyone and their mother owns one of these. I went decades never having opened one, it was the most satisfying "unboxing" of my life ![]() |

Doc, Yeah, I saw that thread. But counted it as an iffy remark bc only one poster said he had this book and never followed up with posting a pic. Other than that thread, I saw nada on this book. I did not mean to imply this book was in the category of Bat 457 2nd print newsstand and I'm aware that no DCU multi pack printings exist. GPA is virtially useless on this book as it has no data on newsstand 3rd print sales. A slabbed 9.8 3rd print direct is worth $50-$75, tops. High in GPA is $130, low is like $30-ish...but assumably those are for directs. I think you are mistaken about this book selling for a slight bump over its' direct counterpart. I say that because I can find no listings of this book, anywhere. This leads me to believe that that the eBay sold listing that I saw months ago, which was commented about on this board by yourself, for somewhere around $300-$500 on a raw copy was indeed a 3rd print newsstand. Gonna press and sub this one. |

And if you really believe something is rare, throw it up on the CGC board as a WTB for $200, and see what kind of offers you get. | ||

Drawing a very long bow getting to see value here. Are we talking 150,000 global sales instead of a 200,000 for this version? This comic has global advertising through every English speaking printed and televised news outlet on the planet.. Hold it for a piece of history..( though would have been far more investing if that really was the end of clark meant imo.) don't hold this one for monetary gains. |

Quote:Originally Posted by DocBrown I wish I could find the thread, if I had it saved, which I should have...well, I wouldn't have to had started this thread. It may not have been a 3rd print newsstand, that sold for over $300-ish raw, in that eBay listing which the thread on here linked to. I can abdolutely say that the eBay listing was put up by a seller who knew that the Superman 75 (whichever printing and edition it was) was a tough book. I remember he used ...well, some kind of reference which was valid, indicating previous sales. I am absolutely positive that there is a tough Sups 75...I just don't know which one it is. The only possibilities, would be the 3rd print newsstand or the 2nd print direct with a UP code sticker slapped on the cover by DC...or a printing beyond the 4th print. |
