Comic Room (Work in Progress)5693

Collector AndyRexia private msg quote post Address this user
Here are some pictures of my comic room. It is still very much a work in progress. It's not as cool as most rooms that I've seen online, but it is mine. I very much enjoy being able to display my collectibles, even if I'm the only one who sees them. I apologize because it's hard to get a good picture of the whole room. It's a rectangular room with only one way in and out.

I just received the arcade today and man does it bring back memories! It doesn't have the correct stickers on the sides of the cabinet so I'll have to figure that one out. I have

Here's the comic wall. J channel works like a charm. Sorry about the glare.

Next are my shelves where I store my short boxes. My collection is small and focus so I don't have as many books as most of you do.

Here is my art wall. Plenty of room for more art!

And of course, a cool rug.

I still have more posters to hang and a display cabinet (or two) to put somewhere. Anyway, thanks for looking!

Very nice.
FYI: There a few companies that sell the side panel graphics for arcade games. With a little searching, you should be able to find what you are looking for,

Thanks Ed. You should recognize several of those books on the wall ;-)

Well I bought the correct side stickers on eBay but they're just square. I guess I have to cut them to fit properly?

The rug was ordered online from Home Depot. Valentines Day gift from my wife. The bag and board area is still TBD lol. It will probably have to be wherever I put the chair and the little table you can see in the picture.

Not sure. A friend got side panels for his Centipede and Gauntlet games. When he received them, they were already cut to the correct dimensions.

I admit I am a total newb when it comes to arcades. I just know how to put quarters in them and play. Maybe I'm looking at the stickers wrong but they don't appear to be cut to fit.

@VaComicsGuy right on thanks. See the stickers are rectangle like this:

Yet they go on the cabinet like this:

The only thing I can figure is they would have to be cut. Which is t impossible, just a pain in the ass.

TMNT was also on the list but was also very expensive. One of the reasons I went with Captain America was because it was the most affordable of the three.

Everything is in mylars, hence the glare. Also, the lights are usually not on for very long. No windows in that room. The room is in complete darkness when not in use.
*Edit* oh and the light is LED. I'd like your opinion if that would be adequate protection from fading or not.

Mylar offers pretty much no UV protection. A quick search online reveals that LED lights produce low levels of UV light. They are safer than incandescent bulbs, but they can still cause your collectibles to fade. Personally, I would not aim any light sources directly at the comics, art, or prints. It's going to be a cumulative damage. If the lights are off in the room, that's going to be a good thing. When the lights are on, the colors will very slowly fade. It's not something you'll notice all at once. It'll happen over a long period of time. Once they fade, the damage is done. It'll be very noticeable compared to one that was not directly exposed to light.

@X51 - The E. Gerber Mylites2 packaging states that they protect against "Ultra-Violet Fading." I don't know how much protection, but there must be something behind that claim.

Very interesting. I was not aware of that. That is what I primarily use on my better books.

Last time I read on the subject, Mylar wasn't showing UV protection in their specs. I honestly wouldn't trust the claims of the people selling the product unless they gave a spec. sheet. Some retailers outright lie about what their product is made from.

The Library of Congress is actually prohibited from promoting any plastics as being archivally safe. Even if I had an item behind UV filtered glass, I would still not aim any lights directly at my collectibles. I prefer to err on the side of caution.

I would just aim the track lights a different direction.
