Nick Spencer / Ryan Ottley taking over ASM5661

COLLECTOR JLS_Comics private msg quote post Address this user
I like this news.

Nick Spencer is taking over writing duties from Dan Slott on ASM; new #1 issue in June.

Joining him will be Ryan Ottley (Invincible) on art

I'll be checking it out, sounds like a good team and Ottley's art style will lend itself well to the wall crawler.

Thoughts?

Ryan Ottley’s art is amazing, shame his talent is being wasted on ASM, which is a GARBAGE book. Spider-Man has sucked since the 80s. Apologies for being negative.

To end on a positive note, I will check out the 1st issue. Also, 1st I’ve heard of this, thanks for the info, JLS. 👍

you got it @dpiercy !

Spider-man has definitely gone through some bad times (Clone Saga, OMD, Parker Industries) but there's been plenty of good through the years like Maximum Carnage, Superior Spider-man, Ultimate Spidey and a few others but those are the ones that immediately come to mind.

I think we all agree, Ottley is a great choice. Perfect timing now that Invincible just gave us its last issue (for a while....)

I still have a bad taste in my mouth from Spencer's Secret Empire fiasco but he has some good work earlier in his CV and they're all pretty "grounded" characters (save for his brief stint with Superman on Action back in 2010. Please no Hydra Parker and we'll be good

Ottley’s work is REALLY wonderful; he is immensely talented. He is a fun follow on the IG and his blog is really cool, too.

I am hesitant to consider buying, but will try to give Nick Spencer the benefit of the doubt in hopes he can redeem himself from a horrible run and story line. Sometimes a switch is needed and I will give the team about 3 issues to convince me with their work.

I am soooo excited for Ryan Ottley to come on board! I have been telling my buddy for years now that he would do great on spiderman! I have been a long time invincible fan and am still sad that the book is done. Good for him! I am definitely in on this book. Hope the team makes the book AMAZING once again!

I was shocked, but excited to hear about this when the PR hit my inbox.... Ottley deserves to be doing something "Amazing" at Marvel and this will fit his style well. This or FF, I'd say.

I'll give it a shot, definitely. He's so damned dynamic!

SM is one of my larger collections next to X-Books, but I tended to drop the book periodically when it lagged. Well, also, there have never been as many SM titles as X-Titles, right?

Sorry, but I cannot get into that cartoony art style of Oxley's.

Big fan of Nick Spencer’s CA Sam Wilson. Liked CA Steve Rogers and Secret Empire had a spark when it started. May give it a shot since it looks like Corporate Parker is finished.

Why...why another #1 / reboot?

I'd be more excited if they stuck with the legacy numbering....I guess it will return again as they approach issue 900...

Is Amazing Spider-Man catching up to Batman? Batman just hit the 800 milestone a few months ago...and its 23 years older! How did that happen?

Batman started off as quarterly and was bimonthly for a while too. Even after it was monthly starting in the 60s, they missed an issue here and there. So when Amazing #1 came out in Mar '63, Batman was only at #154. When Spidey hit #100 in Sept. '71, Batman was at #234.

I am getting tired of ASM starting issue numbers over and over. I get so confused when I put away back issues. This is nonsense. NONSENSE!

I thought spidey was keeping legacy numbers?

Cover is cool.. #1 in the top right is daft

I think ASM has sucked for about 2 decades, honestly, but I am checking out this issue.

I'm a lifelong Spidey follower, so I'll keep buying the books; but I agree with the general feeling that most of the "Amazing" at Marvel is happening in other titles. Frankly, the writing has been better on the Miles Morales Spider-Man title, Spider-Gwen, and Ben Riley: Scarlet Spider (which might want to change its title, since Ben Riley & Kaine Parker seem to both be living in Las Vegas doing spider-things).

Ryan Ottley = most underrated artist in comics... Look at what that guy puts on his Twitter or Instagram feed... he's amazing... He will have his young son draw a doodle and then turn the random lines into a grotesque monster... I know it sounds weird, but it's extremely impressive.
