Turtlemania Special #1 1986

Not free, but rare.

By 1986 "Turtlemania" had truly taken off from the humble beginnings two years earlier with TMNT #1 and it's initial first print run of 3,000 copies. This inspired Robert Wilson, owner of Metropolis comics, to create a one-off special with original material generously donated by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. These comic books contain previews and previously unseen artwork, including a Bob Burdon pull-out poster in the centerfold depicting the TMNT, Flaming Carrot and Cerebus!

For what it's worth, I've never seen a gold one. Ever.

Me either. I called CDC and they couldn't even tell me if there was ever a printed version or not. Like you said, only digital.

There ARE hard copies out there!! According to this article, the CDC handed out copies at the 2011 NYCC.

I found the physical copy at a University police station about 5 or 6 years ago, just by chance. It’s magazine size. No idea on print run, but have not seen it anywhere since. Sorry, mine is not for sale or trade.

It was a mail-away offer if I recall correctly.

It is signed by Jim Shooter.
This was gift from someone.
I have an unsigned copy too.

If you want to read the story, here is the script.

Would you like to sell me your unsigned one?

Thanks

Sorry. I'll have to say no. It took me too many years to get one. I was actually looking for boxes of the product to do the mail-away offer back in '91 or '92. I never found the boxes that featured the promotion. It took me another 20 years or so to get one. It's actually one of the easier Valiant promo comics to get. It's just better known because it's been discussed more online. The KFC comic & the Spaghettio comic are harder to find in my opinion. I still need the Spanish language versions.

I have that going on with a promo Avengers comic that is online. I have the digital version that I downloaded one page at a time using tricky methods. I have post-it notes with the cover image on the side. I have a safety kit with Avengers branded Band-Aids and a sticker on the plastic container with the cover image. I think it might have been published as a fold-out poster.
