@xkonk - Looking at the original ebay posting, he says: "cover detached; bottom staple." He should have said "the cover is detached and the bottom staple is missing!" In any event, that should not be anyone's idea of a 6.0. Never take anything for granted on ebay. If you are interested in a book that doesn't have a back cover scan (or sometimes an interior view for page quality) - ask for one. If the seller doesn't provide one, then no sale. And I always assume the grade will be at least 1.0 lower than the quoted grade, unless it is a seller that I know and trust (and even those overgrade, but I know by how much).

Think the highest grade with detached cover is 4.0 but could be wrong.

Quote:Originally Posted by xkonk In the link you posted, the top staple does look like it is pretty loose. And it appears to have no lower staple at all. I'd say a 6.0 would be right, ignoring the lack of a lower staple. It should have been graded as a : FN 6.0 Qualified Grade* *Bottom staple is absent. There is a chance the lower staple popped out during production but I'd have to have the book in hand to say if that lower staple pop is a production defect. That should have been clarified better, either way. His description noted something about the cover being detached, but there is a typo so it is unclear. I would have asked what he meant before I bid real money on that book. That said, with how he packed your books, it is not a surprise that the cover of that book popped off during shipping. It is amazing that he used the cardboard sandwich method on a book like that.Uneven pressure applied to sandwiched books during shipping, which is very easy to do, can cause spine ticks or worse, in this case... This is one of the reasons why I request a total including bubblewrapped & boxed shipping with extra boards, offering to pay extra, whenever I buy books thru the mail. This is also the reason why it takes me dawn near 15 minutes just to pack up a single book or two. If you dropped $60+ on that one book, never mind the 3 other books you bought, the idea of slapping a $60 book between 2 sheets of cardboard with shipping tape inside of a envelope is nonsensical. My only guess is that the seller has a new helper, who handles packing and shipping. But then again, I wouldn't trust someone whom I was not sure did not understand how to properly handle books to pack my sales up for shipping. |
