| The X-Men spinoff "Gambit" has now lost Gore Verbinski - They've already lost both Rupert Wyatt and Doug Liman. Apparently it was just a scheduling thing. Will this movie ever get made? |

| I think 20th Century Fox was using Gambit as a contractual placeholder for a Channing Tatum summer; but have continually delayed out of (for lack of a better term) buyer's remorse. Gambit was announced in 2014 after Tatum's run of marketable success (Magic Mike, 21/22 Jump Street), but since then he hasn't anchored a film with a box office run that justifies putting him at the helm of a hundred-million dollar summer blockbuster. Its not personal, its business; and his return on investment just isn't high enough. With the buyout of Fox by Disney, I'd expect to see Tatum's Gambit either rolled into an existing ensemble project (post-Phoenix X-Men reboot or X-Force) to determine if enough interest exists to do a solo film afterwards, or scrapped entirely & his contract rolled to a different film. |
