Mycomicshop Lone Star shipping?5118

Collector moodswing private msg quote post Address this user
Is there any reason not to use this shipping method when buying from Mycomicshop? I won my first 2 auctions from the site and Lone Star economy is only $4.95. I assume it will take a little longer than priority but for half the price, it is probably worth it. How well does Mycomicshop package slabs?

Lone Star Economy uses UPS Mail Innovations, which I try to avoid. My last order got delayed a week because it was misplaced during the transition from UPS to USPS. The package was fine when I finally got it as have the rest of my shipments.

I haven’t bought slabs from MCS but their raw books are packaged well.

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user
My experience with MCS is that they tend to over pack. Your books will arrive safely but expect to spend some time unpacking everything and expect to end up with lots of packing peanuts.

They almost bomb proof every package I have ever got from them.

Based on my experiences with them, their grading is pretty accurate (and sometimes even undergraded) and their packaging has been solid.

@drchaos @NoahSult @Krazywan @jrs @esaravo Were your experiences including lone star economy shipping? The post question related specifically the difference between lone star economy and priority.

I've purchased raw & slabbed comics from Lone Star/ Mycomicshop.com. They do an excellent job packaging, but you will have enough packing peanuts to give a UPS warehouse a run for its money. I live reasonably close, and have occasionally gone w/ Lone Star economy when purchasing raw comics; its basically USPS Media Mail. Here's a handy link to the USPS Media Mail handling training video:

When buying slabs I always color up to a more expensive packaging option out of an abundance of caution; but as noted above, they way they "bomb proof" their packaging, its probably not necessary.

@Drogio I only used the cheapest option available.

@Drogio - I used their economy shipping. Slabs are placed in a fitted box that is then placed within a larger box. They also use foam bumpers and fill the voids with newsprint. I have received packages from them that looked beaten up on the outside, but everything was good on the inside.

I just got a 9.8 I ordered from them. The bottom of the box had a few gashes, I assume from transport.

The comic inside an inner box was untouched. They ship box in box. When I have to ship an expensive slabbed comic, I like to re-use their packaging.

This was the first time I had a package gashed or dented from them.

Glass?

@Drogio - The “GLASS” sticker is a lie that many shippers place on packages much like someone would use a “FRAGILE” sticker. This box did contain slabs as well as raw comics.

I have had other comic companies use the “GLASS” sticker also when shipping slabs.

Hey, if Gorilla Glass is good enough for your phone, why not your comics?

Got the comics today. Apparently I didn't hear ups man so the comics were outside for about 5 hours. packaging was great. They used mini cardboard comic holders for each comic and put them into another box with some foam side support. Very happy with mycomicshop.

A box arrived from mycomicshop.com today; this was the packaging. I really like the foam insert around the corner of the slabbed comic.

I like giving those foam corners to my 3 year old to make little buildings and tunnels for his wooden trains.

I've used both Priority and Economy shipping with MCS (Texas to CA). I've purchased raw and slabbed books. The economy shipping can take a couple of weeks, but sometimes it's faster. The Priority shipping is not cheap, but it is super-fast -- usually arrives within 3 days.

I agree with what others have said about their packing: it's excellent.

Also, I like their grading -- they are very conservative.

My $0.02.

Regarding the peanuts... ha ha, I've just run out. Maybe I should order some comics.

It looks like Conan took some of my advice on packaging.
