Kindly stop stop tainting my words with reactionary talking points, you are misinformed.

I worked for Sanders 2016 primary run as an unpaid volunteer, between 5-10 hours a week, for about 3 months.I currently work as an unpaid volunteer, as much time as I can, to 2 other progressive organizations.

I know what I am talking about.

Progressives are not supported by the mainstream media, nor are progressives supported by establishment Dems.

PLEASE, step back from the reactionary talking points.

If you want to talk further, or if anyone else wishes to respond, please....let's keep this discussion to PM's.

Agreed with you here, to a large extent.

Politics, religion and associated issues should have their own subforum, to keep topics , on topic.

Or, talk of this sort should be banned altogether on this forum, if that idea is not explored, or if it does not work.

I have said it before, talking politics via in back and forth posts on a comic book forum is largely a waste of time, for all posters involved.

If the talk can be relegated to one subforum, when this forum is revamped, that would be fine.

Business and politics do not mix, however.

My barber does not talk politics to a regular customer when he's cutting his hair.

For obvious reasons i.e. he does not want to alienate some of his customers.

Accordingly, that is why CGC banned political posting, it was allowed on their board at one point.

So, if CBCS follows suit, which I would expect they would, I would respect that decision.

I don't think anything else needs to be said, in this thread, regarding politics.

CGC banned political posting because most people act like children and cannot handle being disagreed with, as evidenced by...well...just look around. "If you disagree with me, you're not only wrong, you're EVIL." It was a knee-jerk reaction, and wouldn't have been necessary had they simply managed the situation: that is, once the posts started to be about the people involved, rather than the topics themselves, that's when you deal with it.

That's the answer. That's always been the answer, to every problem on internet message boards: don't let it get personal (and understand what it means to "get personal." ) But that requires work, and it's ever so much easier in the short term to just sweep it under the rug and pretend it doesn't exist, by deleting posts, editing posts, suspending people, banning people...until the sycophants turn on you, which they always do.

No, dealing with people responsibly is difficult work in the short term. In the long term, however, it produces tremendous benefits. Too bad most message board administrations don't see things in the long term.

Sure it does. You've opened in the area that reflects upon yourself, CBCS, Beckett, and their parent company. You have decided to make a avatar a political statement. There have not been any rules broken to my knowledge. It is apparent by the lack of moderation that has happened that the mods feel the same way. You opened a door that allows for inflammatory content on the board. I think it will be interesting to see if the mods allow your avatar to stay. Personally, I think it will lead to chaos, and tit for tat reactions between people that have different views in the political spectrum.

I will say this, while your post are presented to be well-thought-out, I found what you did to be completely appalling. I am at a loss as to why you would seek to do what you have done on a comic book forum. This is a place where people come to talk about comic books, slabbing them, collecting them, and other parts of the hobby.

I didn't realize that I came here for a political discussion or to have someone provide me with their political views. I get enough of that in other areas of my life.

I didn't know Sgt. Johnson, or any of his friends or family.

It is an iconic image.

What it represents to me, says a lot about the cost of what U.S.'s current foreign policy, means to the common U.S. soldier and common U.S. citizen.

Both of my grandfather's served in WW 2 and Korea. If I were alive in those times, I would have enlisted.

I do not support our current administration and the for profit wars, which have been waging onward for decades.

President Eisenhower warned the U.S. public about the potential threat of the U.S. military-industrial complex, in 1961.

That picture is a sad reminder that we have not heeded Eisenhower's warning.

If you do live in the USA as you have stated then you realize that the 1st Amendment was written to protect the citizen from the government. It wasn't made to protect people from the backlash that may accompany them sharing their views about whatever publicly. For example, comic book dealer a doesn't share his/her views and sells x amount of stuff on eBay and has load of followers on FaceBook. Comic Book dealer b does share their views and as a result doesn't sell large amounts of stuff on eBay and has a very small following on FaceBook. I guess that is why you stated the following in a post.

What people post on a forum that a company places on the internet does reflect upon the company that owns or operates that forum. It shows what they are willing to provide a voice to. It is why the rules of forums generally get switched and changed. It is why moderation removes posts and locks threads.

To reinterate, I am not "trolling" anyone.

DB made some very astute observations regarding discussion of politics on CGC's forums as well as other internet forums, noing that personal attacks were largely responsible for the removal of any political posting and that it is easier to ban politics altogether, than moderate posts. (paraphrased).

To avoid endless qoutes, kindly refer to DB's post, which is post #309 in this thread.

Also, note that DB and myself share widely differing political views.

It is my assumption that DB holds libertarian/conservative views. He also (assumably) believes in capitalism....as I am assuming that all of us who post on this forum, also believe in capitalism (myself included).

FWIW:

I believe in a mix of regulated capitalism and Democratic Socialism.

Also...

FWIW:

I also believe that green peppers and onions make an otherwise bland Domino's pizza, pretty damn tasty.

FWIW Point three:

(insert random opinion here)

Now, when does a company, such as CBCS or CGC, step in and moderate a topic that may fall under "controversial" of "offensive" material, is up to CBCS.

CBCS, CGC or any company in America, has that right.

As DB noted, it is however, easier to simply just ban political discussion altogether.

If a post veers off topic, the mods will take action.

Back to DB's post.

I respect his views, and everyone else's views, wether I agree with their views or not.

One of the points that I was trying to make was that this great country of ours, was founded on political dissent.

Our founding fathers firmly believed that the U.S. government could never be allowed to degrade into a Government that prohibited political dissent, activism and protest of its' laws.

Hence Free Speech.

Our founding fathers also had the foresight to allow for amendments to be entered into the US Constitution, by public vote, to prevent the perversion of the ideals that America represents.

Were our founding fathers perfect?

No, they were not.No one is perfect.

Pretty sure that our founding fathers, while writing that "All men are created equal", were all slave owners.

The foresight that these men had via the provision that amendments to the US Constitution were possible through public vote...is what ultimately allowed for African-Americans to become free citizens of the U.S.

That is one of the reasons why American ideals must be protected.

That is why I love our country.
